Welcome to Houston, home of such amazing teams like the Houston Texans (lol), the Houston Rockets (only when they are good, so pretty much when Hakim Olajuwon was playing), and the Houston Astros (only when they're good, so lmao).

And this IndyCar race.

Also infamously known as the track which ended Dario Franchitti's career.

Going by the trackmap; all the turns are rotarys (or roundabouts for the non-colonies friends here) now. :flag:

Sadly since this is an NBCSN race I probably won't get to watch.

$300 million spent on COTA. IndyCar decides on carpark circuit. Logic.

IndyCar isn't allowed to race at COTA as the contract prohibits them from running large open wheel cars that isn't F1 for x number of years.

Geez, looking at that track map, I'm surprised the race isn't;

2014 Reliant Grand Prix of Houston

Never knew that, always thought it was IndyCar's reluctance. Its a shame really, but I guess that's the rules.

:o Didn't know that either.

These kind of contracts smell insecurity and weakness. You're afraid that competition might drive people away from your potentially crappy package, so you pay in order to avoid said competition.

Hmm... I've always heard the biggest obstacle (promoter wise) hasn't been Bernie, it's been Eddie Gossage... that there is nothing contractually that prevents Indycar from going to COTA at the moment... and there was some talk about going to COTA a couple years back.

Might be wrong, of course. Instinctively I doubt that Bernie feels threatened by the Indycar product these days, like he felt threatened by CART in the 1990s. Instead I would guess the deal would be like why Indycar can't return to Road America and other places: for the current product, the sanction fee is too darn high for them.

Eddie Gossage will complain about any race in 1000 miles radius from his track because this guy can't stand any competition. His latest complain was that US GP is on the same day as NASCAR race on his track and that F1 is stealing his customers.

Anyone has the stream working properly? It keeps freezing for me. Why do they use crappy ustream and not youtube for livestreaming?
