Tuero's doing TC2000 isn't he?

What ever happened to Baumgartner, he just seemed to have vanished.

It's a great series (apart from the cars and tracks being a complete death trap), its just filled with rejects lol.

Great series if it wasn't for the cars and tracks being deathtraps seems like a bit of an oxymoron lol

Better than filling up the back of the Grid in the DTM...

And besides, F1 isn't the only series out there. Just because some drivers got back of the grid equipment in F1 doesn't mean they can't race a tc well. Most TC drivers are "failed" single seater drivers if you look at it that way...

If they're rejects because they competed in F1 and were eventually rejected, what do you call drivers in other touring car series who were never even good enough to be considered for F1?

It's all about career progression....

For all we know some of these drivers could've had the talent to be world champions in F1, but at an early stage of their career they didn't get the funding or the opportunity another driver did get.
Or like Tim Harvey, was groomed for single seater stardom but had a terrible accident early on which really meant he couldn't drive single seaters competitively
Or. hell, they just get sick of all the sponsorship, PR and especially the political shit in F1 and want to be a racing driver where they get to turn up, win races and go home again without spending half their life in press conferences or have their car not quite set up as well as the favoured driver sitting next to him in the garage, etc.

F1 kind of blinkers the European motorsport fan in the same way NASCAR brainwashes the American market into thinking if you're in racing, whatever series you're in you're always either heading towards it or heading away from it.
It's only the hardcore motorsport fan out there that realises there's a lot more to motorsport than just those series that get the public attention.

Tuero is doing nothing AFAIK now, but was in TC2000 after F1 for a while. Norberto Fontana however won Turismo Carretera in 2006 and José Maria Lopez has won TC2000 a couple of times. Oscar Larrauri was still doing TC last time I checked, so Argentina got that thing going on too.

Mazzacane still does a bit of TC racing as far as I know.

I recall Tuero driving a Ferrari for the FIA GT series recently.

That's several dozen acres of prime real estate that might be going cheap, of course Bernie's interested.

FTFY

I doubt it'll happen, but if Bernie's interested I wouldn't expect him to help the series...

All I can think of is that rumour that I didn't pay much attention to that he wanted to launch an American based GP2 series...

Just saw this http://espn.go.com/racing/indycar/story ... our-events

Quote:
IndyCar has changed the distances of four races in an effort to discourage fuel-mileage racing.

The announcement made Monday changes the lengths of races at St. Petersburg, Long Beach, Milwaukee and Mid-Ohio.

St. Pete will increase by 10 laps to 110, or 198 total miles. Long Beach is decreasing by five laps to 80, for 157.4 miles. Milwaukee is adding 25 laps to 250, for 250 miles, and Mid-Ohio is increasing five laps to 90 for 203 miles.

IndyCar Series race director Beaux Barfield believes the changes will eliminate the fuel-saving strategy that often begins at the start of the race, and teams will now be able to race hard for the entire distance.

Bernie would try to bring a couple of F1 drivers along with him to help raise the profile of the series, but then I could see Alonso complaining about the amount of run-off on the exit of every turn at Indy.

Also just saw this... http://rpm2night.com/view/the-heat-race ... 250.16795/

Quote:
Three 50-lap heat races, including transfers to Race 3 for the top-two finishers in the first two qualifying races, will determine the starting grid for the seventh Iowa Corn Indy 250 on Sunday, June 23, at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.

The format for heat race qualifications on Saturday, June 22, also will reward 12 starters with points - from nine points for the pole winner and descending by one point each position to one point for 11th and 12th. Other IZOD IndyCar Series events, outside of the Indianapolis 500 with its own points framework, pay one point to the pole winner.

Three heat races of 30 laps each replaced single-car qualifications for the Iowa event in 2012. Race 3 consisted of drivers ranked one through eight by combined practice times and race results determined the first four rows. Dario Franchitti earned the pole position and Ryan Hunter-Reay, who went on to win the IZOD IndyCar Series championship, won the race from the seventh starting position.

"We wanted to change things up a little with our oval qualifying format so we introduced heat races in 2012," said Beaux Barfield, Race Director, IZOD IndyCar Series. "We did it in a way that was relatively conservative in terms of the onus that was put on teams by having to run in one heat race.

"Based on positive fan response and feedback, we decided to take it one step further to improve the show and put some value in it for the competitors with points."

Positions in the three heat races will be determined by single-car, single-lap qualifications on the .875-mile, variably-banked oval. A blind draw will determine the qualifying order.

"Heat races at shorter tracks such as Iowa Speedway recall the heritage of oval track racing," Barfield added.

Qualifying Heat Race 1 -- Will consist of the even-numbered positions, starting with position 8 from single-car qualifying. The results of Race 1 shall determine the even-numbered positions in the starting field, starting with position 12. The top two finishers will transfer to Race 3 and start in positions 8 and 10.

Qualifying Heat Race 2 -- Will consist of the odd-numbered positions, starting with position 7 from single-car qualifying. The results of Race 2 shall determine the odd-numbered positions in the starting field, starting with position 11. The top two finishers will transfer to Race 3 and start in positions 7 and 9.

Qualifying Heat Race 3 -- Will consist of positions 1 through 6 from single-car qualifying plus the first- and second-place finishers from Races 1 and 2 to determine the pole winner and the first five rows of the starting grid.

"INDYCAR's new heat race format for our Iowa Corn Indy 250 assures that the three 50-lap qualifying races will create some of the most exciting, edge-of-your-seat racing of the weekend," said Doug Fritz CEO, Iowa Speedway. "Race fans won't want to miss any of the three heat races on Saturday, since the finishing order of each one will be critical in setting the starting grid for the 'big show' on Sunday."
