It was bound to be a lottery. Winning on one-lap with one slipstream is shitty. Winning on a 300-meter sprint out of turn4, based on yellow light timing, is shitty. They both remove the right for a fair fight, and it comes down to when the checkered will fall amongst all that randomness.

All things considered, I prefer 1 lappers over a GWC. Those give hope to everybody in the top 10 and it would be even more chaotic.

oh yeah they should also definately abolish this kind of racecraft, I'm not a keen fan of excessive waving to break tow

It's getting worse every year. Last year introduced going into the pit entry and back, then this year they go beyond the grass out of 2. It won't stop until someone flies off into a car park

I can see Indycar pulling a yellow line rule for that

Geez, Ferrucci's hair remains as stupid as ever.

Feels like the end of an era in a way

The Indy 500 was the last bastion of traditional purism, they always had a mindset of "well, it's 200 laps, if it finishes under yellow, that's racing sometimes, we're not doing anything to change that"

Now even this race has become victim to this TV network "we must have a green finish at all costs and screw the fairness of it" mantra

Oh well, I'm sure everyone will adapt quick enough, but it's a watershed moment in time, you think

Has the race finished? How many laps left when we go green?

That kind of finish feels even more egregious in the Indy 500. Hours upon hours of practice and qualifying for.... what, exactly?

Not gonna lie, watched that entire race and in the end I just feel 'Meh'.

I am quite sure that the final red only came out because they really didn't want to end the race because of a pair of nepo babies crashing into each other on a straight, and there was an opportunity to avoid that. If they had made it to turn 1 before driving into each other, I think that would have been it.

I don't think it's Josef's fault though, I like him and I'm glad he got the win, I just hope people don't hold it against him for how it finished, he was just racing and following whatever rules he was told about

Same with Max after Abu Dhabi really, I could never really blame him for racing at his best, just those that convaluted that situation

Blame race control, not the drivers.

In the middle of all this we missed Pato's interview where he says he crashed because he was "too nice". Way to learn from an appreciation error

From what I heard he thought he was cut down on and he was "too nice" about not taking Newgarden with him....

I'm not a big Newgarden fan, but I'm happy for him. Finally Indy 500 win. But man that restarts... That's terrifying how close to the inside wall after t4 they went. I'm surprised that the grip was there because if not they would just end going headone into the pitlane wall

The final dash to the finish where the Top 2 were on pit road entry was surprising to me. Was waiting for a major incident to occur.

They should do like BTCC and add extra laps when there's a red flag. Sorted. Well, as long as they're not short on fuel.

not a fan of the last part of the race, but i always love the 500 no matter what. I've had arm and leg shaking/twitching today from my meds and health shit has kicked my butt today. Sorry if I posted dumb shit today. LOved the race, watched it with my dad (for the 37th year in a row) but those red flags were stupid. annoying when the biggest race of the year finishews after 3 red's.
