Might be because it's the start of the week.

I know they always start neutral but it’s felt like this for a couple years now.

No need to push it to find speed to make the show. More important to work on getting a race setup that is comfortable.

But, as for random practice crashes... Parts failures are always possible. Hinch knows that all too well.

and there's no point of testing no-tow qual runs until Friday anyway - where the only gain is championship points for full timers that make the fast 12

Here's the rain

Track conditions gonna be an adventure the next few days. Green track after this rain and back to warm on Thursday, warm AND windy Friday, warm (with maybe more rain Saturday), and then 20 degrees cooler (ambient) on Sunday. Perhaps that will make the pole session on Sunday more unpredictable since the conditions should be very different than what they’ll run to make the top 9 on Saturday.

Sunday will be a bit of a guessing game as to how much downforce to take off the car with cooler conditions. Could be interesting indeed.

Today ended up being the first complete washout in 6 years.

track inspection just finished up & cars are back on track currently; only noted incident thus far was a weight jacker issue for Herta and RVK running slow next to the wall for a minute on a cool down lap

Jimmie Johnson was really struggling with navigating dirty air on worn tires the last few minutes. He had several big lifts due to understeer, and nearly got the wall off turn 2 one lap. He was doing fine on fresher rubber, but once the grip started going away...

Was just thinking that I think we had only...2 crashes across the entire event last year? (and one of them was someone not having a wheel put on right in the race itself, IIRC)

Must've been one of the cleanest months of may in history, will be interesting to see if we can go completely crash free this year.
I expect nothing until the power goes up for fast friday, anyway, unless something crazy happens and it randomly rains before they have a chance to red it or some shit like that

Coming back to this it was five I think. Ferrucci in practice, Palou in quali. Then along with Rahals issue, Wilson and De Silvestro crashed in the pits. Power spun in the pits but didn't hit anything, though it did take him out of contention.
