Dear fellow members of this forum, please get ready for The Greatest Spectacle in Racing. 50th Anniversary of Mario Andretti's Indianapolis 500 win. "With tennis, you can go pick up a racket, take a lesson, and understand how much talent and skill it takes to be as good as the top pros. Same with golf: pick up a club. But not many can go out and get in a race car and experience a drive at over 200 miles an hour." - Mario Andretti The time has once again come for us to witness one of the most famous sport events in the World - The Indianapolis 500 - The Greatest Spectacle in Automotive Racing, which is to be held for the one hundred and third time. Many people can only dream about experience driving a race car over 200 miles per hour, the drivers are soon about to do it for about three hours, something that has become a routine for them. But here at the Brickyard, things are not as simple as it might sound. Danger lurks in every corner. A smallest of error in car setup, driver's effort or design of these race cars can lead into a disaster, which can not only break the life long dream of winning this race, but it can also end a promising career or worse. Last year at the Pocono Speedway a small contact lead in to a serious accident which left a promising rookie Robert Wickens badly injured. His body may have been broken in that incident, but his spirit remains strong, maybe stronger than ever. A dream of the most ultimate comeback lives on, Robert has not given up and he will do everything to be not only back in the grid but to win the Indianapolis 500 in the future. Such is the spirit of racing driver who pursues to achieve a reward which only few people in the world can reach. The Borg-Warner Trophy is what a generation after generation of racing drivers wants to hold as a winner of the Indianapolis 500. Even so much that these fine race drivers design their whole career around the concept of achieving it. As expected, Fernando Alonso returns to pursue his dream and immortality in the racing world together with McLaren racing team, which is now teamed up with Chevrolet with a car number 66 - a combination that has been proven victorious back in the 70's in the hands of late Mark Donohue. For Fernando Alonso the target is simple. Win the Indianapolis 500 to complete the triple crown. Since the dawn of automotive racing, the world's best drivers have tested their skills, bravery and the limits of speed in the legendary Indianapolis 500. Constructed in 1909, the Speedway has contributed significantly to the advancement of automotive technology and development of safety devices. It is unchallenged as the world's oldest continuously operated race course and the site of the largest one-day sports event anywhere. This running is not different to previous as new innovations for safety and technology will be introduced again. Last year new aero kit and challenging weather condition didn't do the fans or the drivers any favors to deliver an unforgettable race. This year the teams and drivers have more experience and adjustments to the aerodynamic part package should make the difference. Perhaps other drivers have taken notes on Alexander Rossi's daring overtaking maneuvers and the weather will help drivers to test the limits of their vehicles and talents even more. What ever happens will be left remain to be seen after the green flag is waved for the eleven rows of Indycars that are ready to go flat out three wide to the turn one of eight hundred. Ladies and gentlemen, racing fans around the world, welcome for the Month of May and the Indianapolis 500 for the hundred and third edition! That's the true meaning of Indianapolis 500 and all of it's great traditions. |

One driver is from space? Servia is all but confirmed - given he tested the car, but Schmidt still trying to make a final decision on it - other front runners on that seat according to RACER.com is Mikhail Aleshin & Carlos Munoz (arguably the one of the best drivers in terms of 500 stats without a ride at the moment). Jay Howard withdrew from the running on getting the SPM seat & it appears Stefan Wilson doesn't have enough funding Juncos will most likely be running Kyle Kaiser again, but they are looking for funding - which is why their schedule has been cut back the possible 37th was to be a 2nd car from Harding or Juncos, but funding was needed & it is getting pretty late on that front and in terms of the first post earlier btw: Townsend stopped attempting the 500 last year & will be apart of the NBC crew as usual calling the race (alongside Diffey & PT in the booth, also on that team include: Marty Snider, Kelli Stavast, Kevin Lee, Jon Beekhuis, Robin Miller & Dillon Welch in the pits & in the studio / peacock pitbox: Mike Tirico, Dale Jr. & Danica) |

Will be great hearing Leigh Diffey calling the 500! All due respect to Allen Bestwick, but Diffey's "style" gives the 500 the energy it deserves. |

For those in Australia, FOX Sports just ran a 500 ad - there will be live coverage of the race & qualifying although I think the advert had something wrong with race day |

It was pretty much a given but, Kyle Kaiser confirmed for Juncos. Super excited, as this kid grew up about 35 miles from me here in California. https://www.motorsport.com/indycar/news ... 9/4382276/ |
