Weren't the big bore CART guys turning these kinds of speeds on the flatter layout?

They had to be, granted alot more straightaway speed & less corner speed. They only broke Herta's record tonight (bigger track however)

not liking the looks of this tomorrow either, they will be slower with most of cars in the field trimmed out for qual though. just hate they increased the maximum wing angle limit (there hoping more DF will help get a second groove in, I doubt it works. Hopefully the 2018 aero kit cars are better here with more ground effect aero instead)

They were going about 175-180 back in the 1990s (on a different configuration of course).

Helio's pole isn't too far off from last year's 192mph pole, but yeah 190ish on a one mile is pretty intense. (Over 50mph faster than the top saloon car pole speeds...)
