The deal isn't compete yet, but if it does happen. Phoenix will be ran on April 2th as a 250 lap night race. Currently the main thing that the track and series still has to work on financial terms however.

Nice...

2016 schedule is looking the best since...2001 or 2002.

Question. How much did Nascar alter the track? I know it's a bit more banked than it was 20 years ago, and I'm just wondering if that will have any impact on the racing\safety.

They made it as close as possible to great tracks like Chicagoland, Kansas, Kentucky, Las Vegas...

 The banking in the turns hasn't been changed at all. Just the ridiculous back straightaway.

I think they will be fine, as long as race control enforces a yellow line rule on the dogleg (we know there will be that 1 driver that will go down there and destroy his car trying). Penske & Panther have tested at Phoenix with the DW12's recently.

Fontana not returning next year due in part to an inability to land a mutually beneficial date (cough Miles still scared about lost tv ratings due to football cough)

Bastards. I believe Pocono will probably follow suit. A lot will hinge on this years crowd but the contract is up this year.

I think your dead on about Pocono, I just hope they get a good crowd turnout so it stays on the schedule. IndyCar needs all of the ovals it can get as there isn't many they can try to get a date at these days without a major sponsor backing the race. I believe Phoenix will happen now as ISC still has a title sponsorship deal with MavTV/Lucas Oil for a IndyCar race until 2017.

Looks like it was because of football and that IndyCar didn't want a night race because of the late start time for the east coast of the USA.
IndyCar PR wrote:

INDYCAR announced today that Auto Club Speedway, the 2-mile oval in Fontana, Calif., will not return to the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule in 2016.

INDYCAR explored several options to retain the event as part of its 2016 calendar, including plans to race later in the season to comply with the track's request to host the season finale. Ultimately, the two sides were unable to identify a start time and broadcast window that would not adversely impact television viewership on the East Coast.

"There was a tremendous amount of effort put forth to keep Auto Club Speedway on the calendar. In the end, we could not identify a compromise for 2016 that was amicable for both parties," said Mark Miles, CEO of Hulman & Co., the parent of INDYCAR and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. "We're thankful to (Auto Club Speedway president) Dave Allen for his efforts in these negotiations. We mutually agreed that our inability to identify a date for next year doesn't preclude us revisiting these conversations in the future."

Fine... Go to Michigan then.

EDIT: And what the fuck? Didn't want a night race? Why? Scared no one will watch? Yeah, but a Saturday afternoon race in the middle of summer is a slam dunk for viewership right? Fucking idiots.

Regarding the changes made to Pheonix since last time Indycar ran there:

http://stockcarspin.com/2011/02/26/a-la ... iguration/
Quote:
Progressive banking will be added to the turns. Turns 1 and 2, which currently have 11 degrees of banking, will have 10 degrees on the bottom and 11 degrees on the top. Turns 3 and 4, which currently have 9 degrees of banking, will have 8 degrees on the bottom and 9 on the top.

The backstretch dogleg(highlighted in black and yellow stripes above) is currently more of a “jut”, so to speak, instead of an actual turn. It is also flat, which discourages two-wide racing. With the new changes, the dogleg will be more of a turn, with the same 10-11 degree progressive banking we’ll see in turns 1 and 2.

The frontstretch will also be widened by 10 feet.

Looking forward to Phoenix. I'm sure they'll do something to get Fontana back on the schedule.

It's official, Indycar is run by even more incompetent morons than NASCAR and the FIA combined.
