I know we're few years into it already but it's still crazy to see how well the DW12 works in dirty air at Indy. Just watching practice is a little unnerving. They really are dicing it up.

Actually this time is a great criticism on how they should have tested the aero-kits beforehand.

Considering how worried they are with security now, and the saying "Better safe than sorry", they must be felling real sorry right now. :slaphead:

Another thing, how many pages last year tread had at this point? I really hate for the safety of all, and the health of the Indycar series. But I'm enjoying to watch this unfold. No, those aren't the words. I'm just really on the edge right now. As in oh my gosh, what will happen next?

Perhaps "intrigue" is the appropriate nomenclature?

Hmmm

Lets see
Quote:
Intrigue: to arouse the curiosity or interest of by unusual, new, or otherwise fascinating or compelling qualities;

Yeah, I guess you nailed it. This month of may will be remembered, that's all I'm gonna say right now.

Would Indycar pull an '08 Brickyard 400 and drop a bunch of competition cautions at random intervals?

Not sure what good it would do considering the differing circumstances, but Barnhart has done stupider shit before.

Oh my, Indycar... when did you get such sisies?

Its okay to be concerned because of Helios crash, since the car lifted before he hit the wall.
Its barely okay to be concerned because of Newgardens and Carpenters wrech, since the floors of the cars were exposed to the wind by hitting the wall. Any car would go over at that speed.

It is absolutely not okay to be concerned because of the Hinch wreck (although he was the only one injured and has by far the hardest impact of the four) because this is the most obvious way of crashing on an oval. This kind of crashes occurs regularly since 1911 and you will never be able to completly prevent this kind of crashes from happening.
If you dont want to crash with 220mph, dont race 220mph. Thats the ONLY WORKING SOLUTION!

Imho all 4 wrecks have proven the safety of the DW12.
You have to do something extraordinary to get killed in a single car accident at indy.

A report on CBC suggests that the cockpit was pierced, causing the injury, and that Hinch was bleeding out.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Im not sure if it really means anything since there is no footage to really compare, but Tony Renna's crash was caused when the car got sideways and air got under the car. It was horrible yes but it didnt send anyone into panic mode back then.

It's the way the world is now.

40 years ago somebody could have got killed and they would just clean up and keep racing.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, or one way is right and the other is wrong, it's just the way it is.

Surely, if you look where the suspension is, right at the side of his upper thigh. Also, is really nice of them to check suspension parts. That's something easy to do and very much in the lines of "Better safe than sorry" with no consequences to the competition (as it was yesterday with the sudden qual changes). But I'm sure that if it wasnt for the safety concers 'hype' for the previous crashes, little would be done, at least probably not a red flag in the middle of the practice session.

It's only because they're under close scrutiny that they stopped to have all suspensions checked. If it wasn't for the flips and the St Pete lawsuit, they wouldn't have.

Was that just a bump or something else that he hit?

Keep an eye on the right front suspension. It snapped, dropped down and sent the car going right toward the wall. I guess we can say he's lucky it didnt happen right at turn in and send him toward the wall at a more straight on angle.

The R/F suspension breaks right as he goes over one of those lighter, white spots on the track. Bump? Dip?

Or maybe just a coincidence. The track was diamond grind last year so it shouldn't be that bumpy.

Ok so I was going to type up a long post about this but instead I was asked to go on downforce radio's Monday debrief about an hour after hinch crashed and give my Thoughts. I ended up going on a 3 or 4 minute train of thought where I said everything i felt was relevant so if you want to listen to it and agree/disagree be my guest.

The indycar part starts just before 40 mins in with the host stoking the fire with the usual "is indycar too dangerous" questions and my rant comes in about 43:30 where I suprisingly defend indycar, Who knew I had it in me? :-p
