McLaren CEO Zak Brown said Alonso was very excited but was taking his preparations extremely seriously.

"This is so cool. I feel like a fan and I think we're all super-excited," said Brown.

"Fernando is very excited. He's like a little kid. You should see his texts to me.

"He's probably watched 25 Indy 500s. He's watched Ed Carpenter's entire race from an in-car camera.

"I've never seen him so happy."

I said it before, and I'll say it again - McLaren will sooner stick Alonso in a full season of IndyCar next year than let him go.

Alonso is very consistent, if the car works properly the race will be interesting for him

Really good to hear from Zak Brown that McLaren has a future plans for Indy. Probably only the 500 at first, but we'll take it.

Alonso looks confident and determined but also relax and having difficulties only to cover his enjoyment.

Now, no speed limits! 220s coming up soon! 8)

222.548mph the best so far, he can probably get to 223s, maybe even 224s today. That's a good day for a rookie on a green track.

Done for the day. That's the longest I've watched Alonso, nearly four hours and was excited about it earlier in the day. That's what the month of May does.

Jim Nabors is no longer singing, but this year it's another Jim, Cornelison. Best known for singing national anthems at Chicago Blackhawks NHL games and I have to say, one of the best if not best in that category.

Do we have any rumored entries? Where's Stefan Wilson? Townsend Bell? Juncos is apparently going to have two cars, Spencer Pigot being confirmed. Any other entries? At least we should have 33 cars in the grid.

I'm well aware that Jim is not singing any more, but it's the tradition. Like the Delta Force theme on the backround when Paul Page introduces the race to us. :p

Alonso soon back out on the track. Now for the 223s, please. 8)

just Lazier and the Juncos cars haven't been officially announced yet. Unless something crazy happens I doubt we have more than 33 this year (mainly because of limited amounts of engine leases. Honda already maxed)

Stefan Wilson gave up his ride at Andretti for Alonso (already has a 500 ride for 2018 with them though it appears)

Briscoe apparently doesn't have the money, while Wilson does. Can he go for 2nd Juncos Chevy, next to Pigot?

what's AFS Racing doing?

Last year there was said to be 36 engines. Where's the three missing Chevys?

Wilson has been promised a full season in '18 funded by Honda as reward for giving his engines to Fred so unless there's some serious cock sucking done I can't see him driving a Chevy powered car.

So...Saavedra? Bell isn't apparently interested other than top teams, so...Brabham? God damn it, there's not going to be a bump day, isn't there? Maldonado? Then it would be massive bump day.

Wasn't just the month of May? Or just the 500?

Pigot and Kyle Kaiser seems likely at Juncos. If Buddy Lazier's team secures the funding then we have 33.
