What would be the reason behind that? Financial? Because sports-wise, the OW oval races have always been a blast, even in the CART era.

I don't understand that, is it because Nascar is doing ovals every weekend that people get bored of it? They should come and run on ovals in Europe, I'm sure more people will turn up for that than in California.

then, after the 100th run of the Indy 500, the event will turn into a 500km event in the road course

The split killed oval crowds, unfortunately. It's going to be difficult to bring them back. NASCAR's been on a significant decline for quite some time as well, in a similar manner to other sports such as golf and baseball. Aging demographics in addition to an economy that isn't favorable to the middle class.

If racing quality was everything, frankly, I'd think NASCAR fans would flock to Indy oval races in droves. :p

Yeah, right. Only Indy and now Fontana. Texas at Nascar had a really tasty final stretch. And the cars look so much like... cars. Daytona and Talladega are unmatched, short tracks like Martinsville and Bristol, specially last Bristol race, has nothing like that in Indy. 43 cars making great for mixing tyre strategies, wich almost never are a factor in Indy.

That being said, I loved all the oval races, even Texas, the cars looked and raced like the rockets in 4 wheels they were designed to be. I'm really happy with this new aero-package. Pack-racing or not, they look smooth and can race truly close in the corners, while the driver can show his talent way more than before. Helio and Hunter-Reay decided the indy 500 in a positioning coin-flip, no Monty.... The sport will grow back some in popularity with the way they are racing now, ovals and roads (when there's not much rain). I only hope that the solution against pack racing will be raising horsepower, making it more like the good old days.

Yeah, I wish for higher HP too. Probably won't happen. But all they need is a slight adjustment to give the drivers just a bit more cushion. Then they'll be fine.

(That being said I stopped watching Daytona and Talledega shortly after they put the restrictor plates on. :) )

They probably will just go back to the Texas RF tyre, or something inbetween... I'd say run this tyre at Texas and Texas tyre here.

update on the 2016 schedule, Miles wants to run until Labor Day but says the season could go later if needed (aka Fontana)

I plan on going to the Boston GP....but good lord Indycar; don't make this the finale. What happens if this race is a complete dud and the track layout is shit and the championship comes down to the last race at an unknown venue? Recipe for disaster.

And that's providing the race doesn't get cancelled right before the season.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. This asshole city of mine is still trying for the 2024 Olympics.....so they'll find a way to move future sporting event, "resources" away from an Indycar race. What a fucking disaster the Olympics can and will be if we get them here.

Good. The fact that the IOC have entertained the idea of Boston for the Olympics is frightening to say the least.

Ian-S master troll

Baring in mind Im pretty sure you just said that to send me off on one...you know that's not true

1) mark miles isn't cart (hell the way it's going I'd take irl people over his cowtowing to the Boston consultancy group)

2) Tony George was in league with nascar at the time and they began shutting cart out of ovals as the contracts ran out
A neutral isc might actually have liked 2 series worth of events at their tracks, instead they began switching packed out cart dates to the IRL, which wasn't anywhere near as much as a draw. Didnt make any kind of Business sense unless there was an agenda involved
That's what killed oval attendance for open wheel.

You knew that though

No but I wasn't talking about them, but more Walker, Penske, Ganassi, Andretti, KK, Herta etc. etc. who probably have as much say in the venue's run as the monkeys sat on the front porch. It can't be coincidence that as more people came over from CART, the less Indycar ran the ovals, right after the same thing happened at CART (and continues now, long after NASCAR cut ties with George).

But yeah, there's always more to a story than meets the eye.

Before it was political....now its just financial.

Some of those very same people you mention built their own oval tracks too. Or have promoted oval events out of their own money...to give them their due they're trying.
