I honestly don't get this "can't have races in the same market" mentality, don't the tracks realise that in most countries a regular punter is less than two hours drive from half a dozen tracks that all host the same championship at least once?

Indianapolis is about 4 hours from Milwaukee. In the past, no one cared that those two tracks traditionally hosted races on back to back weekends.

In fact, a good portion of "classic CART" were 4-5 hours from Indianapolis (in addition to the Mile, you have the Detroit street circuit, MIS, the Cleveland airport, Mid Ohio, Elkhart Lake...)

I am curious what went down to make the IRL drop the Glen 5 years ago. The promoter in that article *sounds* like they want them back. (Perhaps its a "for the right price" scenario and the Glen is hoping for a nicely reduced rescue-yer-butt sanction fee out of this. )

WGI is owned by the Frances, I seem to have this memory of the circuit manager saying something about they'd love to have Indycars back but the sanctioning fee had to be realistic, ie cheaper lol

I have a bad feeling whichever track ends up subbing in for Boston will be a one time thing, because it would most likely lose shitloads of money because of the short time left for promoting it and everything. I'd love to have both WGI and Gateway on the schedule permanently in the future so I'd go for a race in some obscure track in the middle of nowhere rather than compromise these tracks for another 10 years. Hope I'm just thinking negative though...

I just read an article on motorsport.com about a possible race in China. After the season is over. Non points.

Hmm, I think I've heard this story before... :whistling:

Actually, even though it probably won't happen (SAFER barrier upgrades being needed etc.), bringing back Rockingham would make far more sense than a Chinese grand prix to me.

Or reviving the Brands Hatch race, for that matter.

Ditto with reviving the Lausitzring or Surfers, for that matter.

Not sure what is up with this China obsession... :o

Apparently Lausitzring Oval will be modernized in the next 2 years. Fixing the pavement or renewing it and maybe installing SAFER-Barriers.

Sorry just found this german news:

The white line divider wall one? lol

I've been to shitty mid 90s touring car races in Moroccan cities, and at least they had decent median walkways to make boulevard hairpin apexes

That A1GP hairpin was so bad, they had to dip the clutch and flick spin it to get it around

Almost like the handbrake turns from Richard Burns Rally

That is actually very cool.

I have friends who care or know nothing about IndyCar, but they're gamers, and they've already shared or liked this on facebook. They probably won't watch the race, but at least they know about it.

Standard champcar (I said it! Drink everyone!) Scheduling practice: schedule a race in China, take their sanctioning fee, sit back and wait for them to cancel when they realise they're badly under prepared.

Repeat for a few seasons until rich
