I get Miller's frustration. He's hearing nothing but negative, and instead of ignoring he's addressing the complaints head on. Fair play to him. And in his answer's he's merely pointing out the many factual inaccuracies of said complaints.

All right, since it's almost May, I assume some of you want to see the 103rd Indianapolis 500 thread soon.

I am willing to do it as always, but since I'm a starting busy entrepreneur now, I might not have time. I'll try my best on 1st of May to start the thread for 7th consecutive time, if that's OK for everyone.

And yeah, I'm super excited about the greatest spectacle in racing and my new career. I find it fitting that it's 7 years since the 97th Indianapolis thread that was my first and that I start my own business in May, which is magical month. 8)

Please Porsche please! That would be a better badge than Audi or VW.

I could totally back Porsche coming back to IndyCar. Hasn't been in the series since 1990.

RACER / Marshall Pruett article on the matter. Engine talks have cooled with no plan for a hybrid system at this current time - but they are still interested in working together in some form, possibly with Carrera Cup at more road & street races (or) moving to IndyCar sanctioning
https://racer.com/2019/04/26/porsche-co ... -interest/

TBH: if they are going to bring in any Euro / German brand, they would need to get BorgWarner to use their new eTurbo hybrid system that runs off of the turbochargers

still think the main front runner for OEM slot #3 is between: BMW, Toyota (TRD with either themselves / Lexus - or Subaru), Kia / Hyundai / Genesis (one of the 3 brands), and FCA (Alfa, Dodge)

Regarding guaranteed spots: The current point system makes it worse to DNQ than what it was when for example Penske duo DNQd in 1995.

Championship-wise, DNQ was the same as DNF in the championship and win was same as winning any other race. Nowadays every position from 25th up counts and Indy is worth of double points.

So thinking of 1995:

Win Indy 500, first retirement in Detroit: 20 points
DNQ indy 500, win in Detroit: 20 points
Not including bonus points.

2019:
Win Indy 500, first retirement in Detroit (assuming 22 cars): 110 points
DNQ Indy 500, win in Detroit: 51 points
Including bonus point for leading a lap.

Alonso won't continue in WEC/Toyota after this year's Le Mans (the last race of the season as WEC season now runs from Autumn to June).

It must mean he is targeting full time Indycar or F1 return.

New Millers Mailbag is again five pages arguing with people who are right about Indy 500 qualifying followed by two pages of patting people who are wrong (surprisingly he found some) on the back. Not worth reading at all.

he gets the Red Bull money and a potential future in Europe

It means Ticktum's fucked.

While I hope it means that Red Bull are considering swinging behind an IndyCar team again I suspect that the reality is that with the dearth of talent in their European pipeline, they have an STR seat with his name on it once he has the superlicense points he needs.

That'd be a gutsy move, but pretty cool if they could pull that of. In any case, I have hard time seeing any cons to this scheme just yet, might be so that Red Bull could ensure that Pato could run the rest of the series?

The press release has made clear that he will complete the races he has already signed up for with Carlin. For next year, who knows?

at least he has the superlicense points right? Considering his achievements at IMSA, Indy Lights and Pro Mazda

Post subject:  Re: 2019 IndyCar Silly Season Thread

Don't know that he does. Indy Lights gives him 15 points, he should have 7 from Pro Mazda as he was second there, and I'm guessing that he has the extra 5 'good behaviour' points as well.

If his IMSA class paid the same points as the big boys, then he does have the points, but I don't see why a slower class would get the same number of SL points as the frontrunners.

Worst case: He'll spend the next few years in F2 without really breaking through.
Best case: Red Bull with a 3 car indycar team bringing Aston Martin as the 3rd manufacturer.
