Swift had the most sound design and a very good cost structure.

Team owners and drivers can roll around giddy in a big pile of respect and cash, but if nobody watches the races they're still fucked. They've successfully removed the one person who might have made people watch Indycar again. Everything else is just egos.

Another point I thought of is, who in their right mind is going to want to come in and either get their reputation ruined by trying and failing to stand up to the team owners until they start the whole process again or worse, be their puppet.

They might as well just nominate Penske or someone to be the new CEO because they sure as hell won't be able to attract anyone else from outside the sport.

I'd be fine with Penske being the CEO only if he bought and brought back Nazareth.

HVM is stuck with Lotus by contract, nothing related to a lease with another manufacturer in place yet. They will enter WEC with a LMP2 and probably ALMS with a LMPC.
BUT I THOUGHT THE OWNERS DIDN’T HAVE A SAY IN HOW INDYCAR WAS RUN OR WHO WAS IN CHARGE

That’s absolutely true, but only to a certain point. As we’ve seen, the owners (and drivers) don’t run the series nor do they steer the actions of the CEO or the board, but they do carry a hell of a lot of influence.

As the consumers in the relationship—just like IndyCar’s loyal fans, the owners drive the series.

We’ve seen the owners call for delays in aero kits, for Firestone to be retained and a number of other things that, technically, they have no authority to vote on. From a practical standpoint, however, IndyCar’s owners are the most powerful part of the whole equation.

If IndyCar owners and drivers made the kind of money Formula One and NASCAR teams pulled in every year, I’m sure they’d be far more open to having a CEO dictate to them, but that sure isn’t happening in 2012.

The present economics of IndyCar racing, at least for most teams, isn’t favorable. True, a few make profits, but the rest either barely break even or come out of pocket to go racing each year.

That’s their choice to do so, obviously; no one is forcing those owners to participate in IndyCar, but compared to those F1 and NASCAR teams who earn so much that they’ll put up with blunt or boorish behavior, the same can’t be said for IndyCar owners.

Until the day comes where IndyCar’s economics are improved to where a CEO can tell his or her owners to shut up and fall in line…and they’ll comply without making a peep, we’ll have a scenario where teams can dictate policy or who they want to have running the series.
Anyone else think that is bullshit?

Chip Ganassi apparently sent a tweet to a reporter saying:
"Randy Bernard's blood is on Robin Miller's hands" :o

Robin said he found that laughable, Said the people who killed Randy Bernard were actually:
"Chip Ganassi, John Barnes, Kevin Kalkhoven, Tony George, Jeff Belskus, Al Spire & 3-4 other members of the IMS Board"

Randy also told Robin that Chip Ganassi had been calling Randy & saying that he wasn't one of the owners pushing to fire him.

Robin also said on Wind Tunnel last night that just before he got fired Randy had reached an agreement with the teams regarding the price of the spare parts. They were going to get a $30,000 rebate & a 10% price reduction for 2013. Now seems they will hold back that announcement so that its the 1st thing the new CEO can announce.

Wow, the story is getting even twistier. Unbelievable really, hard to say what to believe. The whole story is some what one gray area at the moment. But I still think the resigning Randy was done in a very unprofessional way, it hurts the sports a lot while they could have made it way smoother.

The owners know that Randy was popular so they don't want to be associated with his dismissal.

Robin has defended Randy constantly. The teams are just trying to shift focus off them because they look like assholes because of this.

I'm not surprised at all that KK was involved. Say what you want about CCWS, but that man was a fucking virus to it. He went behind the backs of the other owners and made deals that were already rejected. He isn't as nice as what he appears to be.

It doesn't even make a little sense to suggest "Randy Bernard's blood is on Robin Miller's hands." Robin Miller has pretty much always been supportive of Bernard, hasn't he?

Yeah. Chip is clutching at straws. But no team will now ever want to be associated with what happened, and they need someone to blame.

I understand the motivation to deflect blame, but I just don't understand the logic behind blaming someone who clearly didn't want it to happen in the first place.

Yep. I found this quote rather telling.

“Yes, he answered e-mails, yes he talked with all the fans, yes he spoke glowingly to the right constituents, but with the constituency he needed to work hardest on, the owners and the drivers, he didn’t work hard enough to meet timelines with those people.”

100% opposite of what I think needs to happen with Indycar right now. Indycar is in a hole and IMHO needs to attract fans and sponsors first to form a solid basis. The owners whining over the cost of spare parts seems short sighted, is their ultimate goal a low-cost spec series? To me its telling that the owners do not recognize that they are racing for the fans, and (in a related manner) the sponsors that pay the bills.

I agree with the article that hiring someone (a "competition director") specifically to deal with the owners while Randy focused on the marketing would've been wise.

The owners are clueless. More need not be said.

(When I say you below it's directed at the owners/teams)

In the article it mentions how Randy was more loved by the fans than most of the drivers/teams. Duh idiots. The only fans you have left are the ones who've slogged it out for the last 15 years and who have had front row seats for the your stupidity and incompetence.

Indycar gets a new CEO and slowly we (the fans who are still watching you jackoffs) are reminded of the good ole days and why we loved Indycar to begin with. This was directly attributed to that CEO. Now, through your bullshit, the CEO who gave us loyal fans hope has been fired. Why in the world do you think we're all so pissed?

Damn owners/drivers/teams need to wakeup and realize the Indycar fans they have left know them better than any other fans of motorsport do.

The teams are in it for themselves. They can sit and pretend they'd do what's best for the sport, rather than themselves but that's a complete crock of shit and every single one of us knows it. In fact this just proves it. They didn't get rid of Randy to help the sport, they did it to help themselves.

It is was CCWS doomed, and it's why IndyCar will be doomed if the new CEO has to be a puppet for the teams if they want to stay. It's why the threat of an F1 breakaway series was never a proper one, because all the teams knew it'd fall apart within years when they all disagreed on things and threw toys out of the pram (see Jaguar, Toyota, Honda).

Teams cannot run a series. They weren't meant to be running IndyCar, but they still managed it.
