I'm sorry, but of course I wasn't talking about the old school Fiats like the 131, Punto, Tipo and Croma, but those new rounded ones are hideous

...

It's cool, heh

So happy about ABC getting the axe. They were fine until the split, and ESPN did well with CART until around 2000 or so. Once they old Speedworld tech crew left, seemingly the same time as NASCAR, the coverage went down the toilet. Once ABC Sports was rebranded ESPN on ABC it was the final nail in the coffin.

Commentary booth aside, I feel like their 500 coverage has always been good. It's everything else that seems to have been circling the drain for years now. Hopefully this means NBC will pick up the full schedule.

Would have to imagine it's NBC. No one else was bidding as fast I know.

Dumbshits like Marty Reid and Todd Harris and Rusty Wallace don't define the 500 on ABC. It's people like Jim McKay, Chris Economaki, Jackie Stewart, Paul Page, Bob Jenkins, and "Delta Force" that took an already important race and made it bigger than life, whether American open wheel racing was at its highest high or lowest low. The fact they kept the relationship going for 54 years straight is a massive feat in any facet of sport.

I'm not ashamed to say that it's going to be a strange feeling not having the 500 on ABC.

This!

And it will feel weird not watching on ABC, excited as I am for the change.

Sucks about NBC losing F1. Could have had one hell of a doubleheader over the air!

I agree with all of this. I think Marty gets the short end of the stick some of the time, not that he was very good mind you, but he had a pretty bad run of races in his career and I still think his sign off for Vegas was one of the best given the situation. But, I digress.

I grew up on Paul Page, Bobby Unser and Sam Posey. Paul and Sam made a lot of mistakes but with Bobby there to clean up, and be an arrogant ass about it, it usually worked itself out.

Excited to see what NBC can do with it though. I wonder if the got rid of their F1 coverage so they could concentrate entirely on Indycar? Would seem a strange choice at face value unless NBC are going all in thinking Indycar might well be on their way back to early 90's CART kind of popularity.

The problem I have with Marty Reid is that, voice-wise, he comes off less like an expert play-by-play commentator and more like one of those shady used car salesman types.

Same thing with Rick Allen in NASCAR, just replace "used car salesman" with "exaggerated game show host you only see in 90's sitcoms".

:p

Is it too late to try and lure Larson and Kurt into the mix? They both have very Indy-friendly bosses.

If the third SPM car comes through then Honda have no more spare engines, which rules Larson out (and for some reason Floyd is cool on the idea).

The only Chevrolet team that has expressed any sort of interest in running an extra car beyond what is already committed is Harding, and I don't think that interest is on the scale of SPM's.

Helio 3rd fastest at Barber in his first outing with the car:

Never been a big fan, but I'm sure he still has lots of juice in him and would be up there if he'd be full time this year.

Note: This post was made on March 20. I bring that up because... we only got to 33 much later in recent years, didn't we?

in past years it would be anywhere within a couple weeks to 6 weeks before opening day (depending how things were on the sponsorship front for a few teams)
