It would be a helluva lot better than China. ;)

Personally I think there are bigger markets they should be focusing on, South America seems like the perfect place to have other races tbh plus the V8's dominate too much in this part of the world, the Gold Coast race has been super sucessful without Indycar/Champcar

While yes there is bigger markets that they should try, I'd think a race in Australia / NZ has a higher chance of actually happening at least after being announced (looks at: Qingdao, Brasilia, Boston).

I remember a few years ago reading something form Miller, or even Marshall about a tyre company (not mentioning which) being interesting in becoming title sponsor and exclusive supplier and I assumed at the time to be Continental. The drivers and teams however were far from excited at the prospect on turning in turn one and Indy at 240 in a tyre they didn't know, and it seemed to make sense at the time.

However as Continental are out of IMSA, I assume they would be willing to splash some good money this time around...

Man I hope not. Not unless Continental/Hoosier/General build tires for the big leagues better than they are for the short tracks. Our tires for SDW, and the season for that matter, have been all over the place. I know the SuperMod guys have no idea what they're getting week to week and it makes setting it up all kinds of weird. You could have two 91's for instance, one tire will be 85 and the other will be 94.

I sure hope their QC is better for the big guns. Any sponsor willing to spend on Indycar is great, but with the tires, if they produce garbage and the racing suffers, then spending a bunch of money to sponsor the series doesn't help.

I think it's the worst when a driver/team combo are super good but have no pace because of the tyre they're stuck on, Indycar is flourishing with equal equipment, lets keep it that way

Agreed. In the current motorsports climate where sponsor dollars are hard to find and the costs keep going up, parity (or mostly parity) and stability are very important. One more engine manufacturer to ease the load on Honda and Chevy would be nice and it might bring in another team or two. Beyond that, leave it alone for awhile.

What's the fastest car to have ever been raced there? Any high profile single-seaters or LMPs?

I mean, just imagining an Indycar around there seems like 1960s-level of scary

Apparently in the 1950s and 1960s Australia's version of Formula Libre and later Formula 2-type classes raced there. Of course, that was the 1950s / 1960s. :8:

More recently, Formula 3 style cars under the Australian Drivers Championship raced there from 2012 to 2014. Their pace seems pretty close to the GT3 cars that race there. Indycar would probably be, um, a bit faster...

It wasn't a race but they ran a McLaren F1 car around there in... Uh, 2012? Trying to go off memory on that so someone please correct me. I think it turned a 1:45.xxx or something like that.

I'd love and hate to see an Indycar race there. It's a bit weird. I love Bathurst because it's a dangerous, old school track. I would not want to see Indycar there for those same reasons. I don't think I'm explaining that properly but I trust y'all get the jist.

a track like Mt. Panorama could give a lot of headaches regarding brake and suspension wear, is more suited to touring and GT cars
