The last lap of that race was the best last lap of that entire season.

The last lap at Road America in '96 was a close second though. Seeing Al Jr. blow up in Canada Corner immediately after cutting away from a replay of a flipping car is pretty insane, and Danny Sullivan's "Oh no! Oh no!" is locked in my head for all time.

A bit off topic, back in the mid to late 90's, Brazilian TV stations SBT / Ao Vivo had their own version of CART broadcasts where they had a few alternative camera angle's including an onboard camera on Mo Gugelmin's car "exclusively" for their use (normally ABC / ESPN had a policy of not allowing onboard shots from tobacco liveried cars - Big Mo being sponsored by Hollywood tobacco in them days). Theirs a few race's from 1994 where Villeneuve's Players Forsythe car had a "Brazil TV exclusive camera" as well.

A Youtube user has been uploading lots of the coverage of CART events, here's one of them

Does sound like the kind of thing Doornbos would put his money into. Very Dutch.

So, I was watching the 2001 Laguna Seca race.

They mentioned Honda decision to leace CART at the end of '02 due to 'CART's approval of a normally aspirated engine from 2003'. Anyone has more info on that? Obviously it would've been a dumb idea.

Unrelated, but is there a Road America race where Andretti was chasing Zanardi and crashed out due to a tyre failure? Or maybe it was another track? or I just dreamed it all?

Yeah, 1998. His tire exploded while running at speed down a straightaway with just one lap to go I think.

Here's the whole race for good measure, includes the infamous Herta/Barron crash.

Probably already posted in this thread, but there's no such thing as "too much late 1990s CART"

He was actually giving chase to Dario Franchitti, and it was Zanardi that capitalized on Michael's tire failure.

But alas, Dario was too far ahead of Michael, unless Dario had an engine fail much like Al Jr. did two years earlier.

I put up Eurosport's 1996 CART review:

And since they haven't done it I made a playlist featuring all the classic races on Indycar's Youtube channel which i'll keep updating as they add new races:

Since it's the 100th running of the 500 this year, has anything been mentioned of ABC or any other broadcasters showing any Classic 500's as they did in the Centennial Era 2009-2011???
Be great if they finally rebroadcast 1965, 1966 &1976 Race think these were the only missing ones from the last set of re-runs.

Good question. Running up to the race in 2011, i remember ESPN Classic was airing several of the classic ones at night.
