At least he missed the divider.

Still, ouch.

Darnit. That's disappointing. Wasn't a bad hit, so hopefully the chassis will still have the same performance when they get the new parts on it.

I am by no means glad Alonso shunted, and don't wish him any bad luck during the race, but am I in the minority not wanting him to win this year? Now that he's committed to running in the midfield in F1 for the next two years, wouldn't it be better for IndyCar, especially in these times, to have someone who fans can see week in week out from now on, not just someone who is this just for his personal ego to get the triple crown?

the publicity from him winning would likely add more fans than an indycar regular. only if a true rookie won or something could you generate more interest than an alonso win

Yeah, but what an ego...

Personally I think the historical importance of the achievement would be enormous and that overrides everything else. I know Hill did it but it's a very different world now. To master all three forms of motorsport like this takes some doing - Andretti got close if you count the championship (although he never won Monaco), Jacques gave it a go and Montoya is only a step away if he wants it. But my feeling is if Alonso doesn't achieve it, I'm not sure we'll ever see it done again

Most of the people who want him to win it don't really understand that he's not a favourite or even a dark horse, and so I wouldn't get worked up about it. It's not going to happen.

Anyway, Dixon the first to make 226.

The law of irony almost mandates that someone should fly over the back of Daly's car whilst the broadcast is using his rear-facing camera.

Hanley appears to have completed his refresher course, so there should be a full compliment of 33 for tomorrow.

Personally I think it's great Indy is still enough of a draw to attract drivers from all over the world.
Though there'd be a minority of F1 fans who think he just waltzed in an schooled the lower-level Indycar drivers if he won, his story over the last few years prove that it's nowhere near that easy for any driver to come to Indy and compete

I'd love it if we got a year where Alonso, Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson and hell even Scott McLaughlin were in Indycars mixing it up, along with whoever else from other disciplines of Motorsport showed an Interest, the trouble is, these people like being paid to go racing, so I'm not sure budgets could stretch to that

Well, if he wins, the Indy 500 this years is over. There is then 2 more races in gateway without Alonso and the next race after that might be in March. Or not. So... publicity for what exactly?
Him coming back one day because he hasn't won yet would generate some publicity for the race he actually competes in again, which means som more people would watch.

Normally, I'd agree with that, but it is the Indy 500. It's always going to have, roughly, 7-10 drivers that aren't "week in and week out" drivers. No one was upset when Wheldon won it, at least over the fact that he was in a one off car. Also don't agree with the ego comment. Every driver out there wants to win and in anything that can race lol. He was definitely put in his place during qualy last year AND he's already admitted that it's impossible for him to do the 500 the next 2 years. If he was completely full of himself and flat out determined with this triple crown goal, he would have bragged how Renault will let him race it, or even say doesn't matter what Renault says cause he's winning the 500 this year lol. Don't wanna seem like a lil fan boy of his but to be blunt, dude, it's the indy 500. I can guarantee that even some 5yr old boys and girls are dreaming of winning this race once they're asleep tonight. IDK, maybe just a difference of opinion between the definition of the words determination and arrogance.

Different topic but did you guys catch when they were showing the helmet vents on a couple guys? The air hoses are picking up a lot of grass, marbles and debris. That wasn't an issue I had even thought of with the areoscreen and venting.
