It would be nice if those australian kunts would not use paywalls to read a simple article.

Anyway, I would consider going there for a race. I'd love that. They could extend the course to the north a bit. To the south...not really possible.

The current layout & size that V8's use for Surfers is fine for IndyCar in my opinion. It's bigger than St. Pete & Toronto presently, and IndyCar has raced on much smaller tracks previously (Bayfront Park in Miami (2003 CART race was only 1.15 miles in length), Meadowlands (1988-1991), San Jose) in past so it wouldn't be a big deal.

I just hope it happens & that IC is able to add more races to the calendar along with Surfers, Miles has said in past that Surfers is the #1 track on his wishlist to get a IndyCar date at. Just wonder which races are going to pan out for 2020 or later given the recent rumors between Richmond (or a other ISC track), Rio, Punta del Este, Montreal, Calgary etc.

If it wasn't for the date issue (Tony George demanded a "return to the March date or no race" clause when they were negotiating in 08), I'm sure they'd still be racing there now, track changes or not

That still might be the sticking point now tbf, with Indycar wanting their season done before Football starts, and I can't see Surfers wanting to move earlier in the year to compete with both Adelaide and the GP.
(Unless it's super early like February maybe...)

But Surfer's should be ok to be done late in the season since is broadcasted at late night in US so there's no time clash, could work properly as a season finale

They're not going to want to run the season finale outside the US and they sure as hell aren't going to want to run it at 1AM when no one is going to see it. At best, you'd be looking at broadcasting it tape delayed sometime in the afternoon, right against the football games.

Their best bet would be early in the season. It used to be run early in the year.

Wasn't it because the FIA/Bernie that forced Surfers towards the end of the season because of F1 moving to Melbourne and the start of the F1 season. I'm sure there was some BS rule about not being allowed to run in the same country within a month of F1. Or I might just be imagining that.

They definitely had a rule about F1 tracks not being able to host single seaters of X amount of horsepower equivalent to F1
(as Champcar found out in 2007 when they wanted to race at Spa and ended up having to go to Zolder instead due to this rule.), but it wouldn't surprise me if Bernie had a date/x miles in location clause in the contracts too to prevent similar series competing with F1 just down the road, he thought of everything, that guy.

I doubt V8's want to budge on their date either, If it does happen then I think it would be a second race weekend at Surfers in February / March / April for IndyCar. With the new owners of F1, I think the older clauses will be opened up some as well.

One of the usual promoters in the region thinks a IndyCar race would require a extension into Main Beach.

As you mentioned the current track is actually slightly longer then the St. Petersburg and Toronto ones which Indycar currently runs so I don't know if it really is an issue.

exactly my thoughts, don't need a F1-sized track to run a IndyCar race, and even then most F1 street circuits are extremely long
