Glad I was able to catch up to live after watching that shite in Monaco. That was intense!

Viewers from Madison couldn't see the finish because the local NBC decided to put an ad right at the last corner lol

I wish the whole race could have been like the last stint where the drivers are actually going fast and racing. This whole fuel saving bullshit is what causes most of the cautions early on, everyone is running half throttle in a pack and they are just tripping over each other and causing accidents.

It's also interesting though to see how it leads certain cars into a false sense of optimisim about their chances. They can be "fighting" for the lead for the first 150 laps but then as soon as the genuine fast cars put their foot down they get left for dead.

I honestly didn't realize Dixon passed Rossi in the end. Was that even mentioned in post race?

Rossi must have had a poor run through turn 4. Dixon doesn't look anywhere near close enough to pass.

I really hope so, the penalty took him out of contention. He had a great learning curve during this month of may

It reminded me of the 2001 CART season finale at Fontana. A delayed start followed by a race where no one wanted to lead and pretty severe fuel saving towards the end. The race was shortened by 20 laps as they were running out of day light

Although I am quite certain one difference is that Dixon preferred the finish to yesterday's race over the finish of the 2001 Marlboro 500.

--------------------

To the surprise of no-one, Larson was voted ROTY.

--------------------

5.3 million people watched the race in the US, which is markedly higher than last year (4.9 million). Obviously the lifting of the blackout and Larson's presence will have helped.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Rossi was very tight on fuel, from what I read.

It's an endurance race, not a sprint. Welcome to motorsport.

Anyway, what a bloody good race! I managed to avoid the spoilers and watch the whole thing last night. :flag:

I find so many people don't understand long races. They always thing everything's a sprint race.

It being later might have helped people on the west coast to watch it. I'm certain European viewership must have been down.

That last bit includes the drivers sometimes. Here's looking at you Pocono 500.

is quite like the super speedway races in nascar, first 400 miles is pretty much a waiting game until they start dumb blocking and all hell breaks loose

Do they need to look at the schedule? If there are any rookies in the field the first oval they are doing is Indianpolis, and that's probably the last oval you should be starting on if you are a rookie.

However in Indianapolis drivers get much more practice time than on other ovals.

I actually thought this years 500 was quite the opposite. Most people drive like they had wasps in their fire suit for the first half and then they remembered how to do it in the second. Minus Dixon maybe.
