Alguersuari will miss the season on medical grounds as they continue to diagnose what's wrong with him.

Chandhok is officially toast as well. Simona was confirmed as Andretti's full-time driver alongside JEV on Tuesday.

Villeneuve's bagged a drive

If the series already have a sort of a credibility issue in terms of driver quality, then someone like Villeneuve who could have had retired from all racing already isn't good for the series.

Or if he gets stomped by the other 19 drivers, it will prove the talent on the grid.

Amlin has split from Aguri and has partnered up with Andretti instead.

What does beating a 44 yeard old prove who has been semi-active and besides one Indy500 haven't driven single-seaters in years? He can prove something (I doubt though), but 1997 was a long time ago.

I think he could probably still beat the likes of Yamamoto, if he hangs around. You never completely lose the sort of ability that Villeneuve has.

Besides, look at Indycar. A lot of the top drivers there are not many years behind Villeneuve. I believe that there is still a minor form of merit in beating him. Unless Venturi's battery is complete crap, in which case he won't be beating anyone anyway.

It's only F1 who are completely youth centric and your career is almost over by the time you're in your 30s

Indycar, Sportscars, NASCAR, Touring cars and many others, you race until you feel you want to stop.

Formula E cars are hardly athletic to drive and the races are shorter than most, JV will do fine if he applies himself.

Or he'll be unmotivated, run around at the back and quit after a couple of rounds. Probably that.
But it won't be due to his age really.

Formula E's all about entertainment and VILLNOOF always provides lots of entertainment. Sounds good to me

At least there's that, the G forces are probably pretty low. The cars still look pretty handful to drive, partly because of the bumpy surfaces.

I still think it would be better for the series to profile as one career goal for young-ish drivers and not as a retirement home for last decade's F1 rejects.

I do agree with this. The more they do that the more snobby elitist fans will look down on them.

Hopefully the young guns will still come to the fore and the established names will just be there to bring in a few more fans who would've otherwise have paid it more attention while running around mid pack at best.
A bit like Plato in BTCC then...

He'll quit half-way through the season like he did with Rallycross last year.

Looking forward to him changing his name to Jaques Vill-E-neuve or something.

When was Trulli ever at his 'best'? Actually, same goes for JV. Come to think of it, probably 1997 for both.
