I like it. Shorter wheelbase, lighter, less barnacles, all the things we wish F1 could do. Looks more like a go-kart now, which suits the tracks they're going to.

My 2022 thoughts: it's so brave and avant-garde!!!

My real thoughts: it looks like shit. It manages to be plump and angular at the same time. It manages to be needlessly aggressive and clumsy at the dame time.
Real life is not limited in number of polygons you dumbfucks. Draw something sexy.

Yes, this sort of thing. I couldn't find the one from India which is an even better example.

Anyway, will be interesting to see how they recharge at pitstops and how that will change strategy

Nowhere did I say or imply that, but I'll let it slide and address the point: of course, sometimes other specs may force the design and not leave designers with much choice. But the design here seems so radical that I think we can safely assume it's highly driven by a stylistic choice, not a last resort compromise to fulfill other technical specifications.

And regardless of the reason, how good-looking the cars are, typically drives my ticket-buying and TV-watching habits. Not fully, but significantly. The barrier to entry is slightly higher for a fugly series, than for another one where I know at least I'll be watching something nice and sexy even if the venue or the race itself happen to suck. I'm a horrible shallow person who only values looks, will ditch their aging partner, and not a real race fan.

edit: ah, great, you posted the design constraints. They literally highlighted space for commercial signage FIRST. Great, looks are not the #1 criteria indeed :lol:

Why would you want to reduce pack racing? As long as the drivers are sensible on the straights it's not like their speeds are high enough for serious incidents. It's a strange design brief to make the cars race worse

Explanation of what happened:

"It was not a puncture but the rear tire actually came off the rim. The clearance between the rear right toe control rod and the rim was quite less. While rolling the wheel with the car jacked up, the wheel did not interfere with the toe control rod. However, when the car was driven, a compliance was induced as the tire experienced some flex due to medium rubber compound. This compliance made the rim touch the toe control rod. The rim got deformed and the tire came off.

On the front right wheel, there was a problem with the brake disk. Due to a manufacturing defect in the brake disk it sheared from it's center bolts. The broken part of the disk filed the inner part of the front right rim and thus, the whole wheel came off.

We were happy to see out suspension components were fine."
