V8SC 2008 - Round 12 - Gulf Air Desert 400 - Bahrain P: You need JavaScript to be activated to be able to use the timer function Q: You need JavaScript to be activated to be able to use the timer function R1: You need JavaScript to be activated to be able to use the timer function R2: You need JavaScript to be activated to be able to use the timer function R3: You need JavaScript to be activated to be able to use the timer function After a fairly processional event on the Gold Coast, the V8 Supercars make their 3rd trek to the Kingdom of Bahrain for the Gulf Air Desert 400. Jamie Whincup will be hoping to continue his great form after a perfect performance at Indy, and will also be looking to make amends for failing to score a point at this round last year which effectively cost him the championship. There are only 2 other contenders for the championship, Garth Tander (106 points behind) who had the speed at Indy but not the strategy, and Mark Winterbottom (75 points behind) who cleaned up at this round last year. With 900 points still available Lowndes (513), Davison (583), S Richards (628), R Kelly (682) and Courtney (710) are all still mathematical possibilities, but it would have to be an absolutely disastrous weekend for the top contenders for them to have even the remotest chance. Certainly a surprising news story coming from Bahrain http://www.gulf-daily-news.com/Story.as ... ueID=31228 Quote: Al Musalam to make V8 debut
BAHRAIN's Fahad Al Musalam will be the first Middle Eastern driver to participate in the Australian V8 Supercars Championship Series, starting with the Gulf Air Desert 400 which gets underway on Thursday at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir. Following talks between the BIC and Team Kiwi Racing, it was confirmed that he was invited to race for the New Zealand outfit after his exceptional performance in Winton Raceway with the Garry Rogers Motorsport team. Al Musalam had tested GRM team in Australia last May as part of his prize after winning the Lumina CSV ME championship where he impressed many people, among them was Team Kiwi Racing. "I am looking forward to driving with Team Kiwi Racing and it gives me great honour to be the first Middle Eastern driver to be racing alongside some of the world's top touring champions," said Al Musalam. "I will be racing next to the Australian drivers with all their experience, but I aspire to start, finish and perform to the best of my ability." Having tested with the Garry Rogers Motorsport team aboard a right-hand drive Holden, Al Musalam will now be driving a Ford as part of the Team Kiwi Racing outfit. Al Musalam thanked Team Kiwi Racing for appreciating his talent and making his dream a reality. He is looking forward to meeting the team and drivers and hopes to make the Kingdom proud. |

Qualifying spoilers, not sure if it will be broadcast tonight, I highly doubt it.
No real surprises with maybe the exception of Todd Kelly in 3rd and Marshall and Patrizi making it to Q2 ahead of both Sprint Gas cars and both BJR cars. It will be an all Team Vodafone front row for race 1, with Jamie Whincup scoring the pole from Craig Lowndes. Code: V8 SUPERCARS - Qualifying
|

It should be broadcast ahead of Race 1 tonight. Maybe it'll be highlights only, not that there were too many.
Great to see Toddler as the top Holden. Al Musalam is inside the 105% on times posted, but was actually outside the 105% after Leg 1. Fastest lap in Leg 1 was a 24.3, fastest in Leg 2 24.6, before ending with a 25.0 in Leg 3. Whincup was fastest in each part. Al Musalam mentioned that TKR are still using the h-pattern gearbox and that Garry's car (GRM) was easier to drive as they had a sequential. Made the standard comment that learning to shift with your left hand is difficult. Especially with the h-pattern.
|

Apparently he flat spotted his final set, and given the drop off in times that's just suicide. Yeah, still not really up there though. They won't show full quali and an hour race in a 1.5hr telecast. Pommy bloke isn't bad. |

Bahrain, whatever your view on taking races away from Australia, or the lack of crowd, always provides some of the best sprint races of the year. |

I know your on delay, but got to love that Mark Dutton tells Whincup that Winterbottom took out Tander. David Addison is the British commentator. Very impressive calling this weekend. Wouldn't have had to do too much research for this weekend as he did on track commentary with Paul Marinelli (sp?) at Bathurst, so would have been quite familiar with the cars after 161 laps. |
