Glad to hear of Lloyd's wins; watched this vlog from him after last event's wreck and was really struck about how much concern there was that he'd even be able to finish the season with the chunk that wreck took out of his budget.

Yeah, it was great to see him bounce back but I can only infer from your post that you only saw the blog and not the races as it wasn't something ITV were leaving unsaid every time he was on the screen

Then Tim Harvey came out with "there's no Prize money in the BTCC as we know" and I have to admit I DIDN'T know that.....weird
If I was the teams I'd be packing up and going home mid-race if I suddenly found that out lol

There’s never been any prize money other than token gestures, just prestige and trophies.

Back in the 90’s if you wanted to race in any of the support series, but I’ll talk about one I know of - Formula Vauxhall Junior, you had to pay a TOCA entry fee, this covered the TV coverage, Trophies, organisation, etc. This was, IIRC in the region of £30k paid in three instalments of around £10k a piece, this was on top of your £150k budget for just running the the car (before damage costs). You also had to commit for the entire year, you could not buy “one off” drives.

The age old saying of “how to make a million pounds from motor racing - start with a billion” springs to mind., it’s why teams take on someone like Tom Chilton, cos they know Graham has an almost bottomless pit of money available to him that can be used to bankroll the team through the year. It’s also why they take sponsorship from someone like Rich Energy, even if you only get the first instalment out of him, it’s probably covered your budget for the year. Cos you ain’t getting sweet FA for winning the damn thing.
