Steve Owen will be driving for TKR this weekend. Kayne Scott is driving in the NZV8s, and Chris Pither hasn't recovered from his Bathurst injuries. Don't know what his injuries were, might be to do with lightening the teams wallet even further.

Owen will be the quickest driver in the car this year, but I'd be amazed if he cracked the Top 15.

Thanks for the heads up, have the news at the ready.

This weekend is underrated, so much leet support racing around a tight challenging street circuit with a 28 grid field for the main event.

Gonna be fkn awesome.

Because the carrera cup cars don't have slowdown laps cars use their final lap as a slow down lap. Car 11 was the last car on track on his hotlap. When you have 7 cars into the turn 1 area slowing to enter their paddock he went across the line flat. He missed 1 car but hit washington in the rear and flipped onto the roof. Juniper is in his back up car and washington may not be back out for the weekend.

A few pics from me.

Reminder for U.S viewers, the race will air in tape-delay (I think) Sunday at 11pm on ESPN2.

IndyCar fate known within a fortnight
Article from: The Advertiser
GUY HAND

October 23, 2008 12:14pm

THE fate of the Gold Coast IndyCar race for 2009 and beyond will be sealed within a fortnight of this weekend's event.

Indy 300 chairman Terry Mackenroth says negotiations to keep the race in Queensland will be held over the four-day race weekend, starting today.

Organisers want a five-year contract to continue running the event.

Speculation over the race's future has been rife in recent weeks due to an impasse between US Indy bosses and the Queensland Government over next year's race dates.

IndyCar officials are understood to want next year's event moved to late September or early October, which would mean a suicidal calendar clash with either the AFL or NRL grand final.

The Queensland Government, which pumps $11 million a year into the Surfers Paradise street race, wants the event to continue in the late October slot occupied for the past decade.

But Mackenroth said today he was confident negotiations would be successful and the race's future would be secured long-term.

He has set a deadline of 14 days from Sunday to determine whether it continues.

And he confirmed the government was seeking a five-year deal.

"We will be holding a number of meetings over the weekend. If an agreement can be reached, a binding contract will be signed within 14 days of the event,'' Mackenroth said.

"It's what we've agreed on and what we intend to do. It is our intention to make a very clear statement within 14 days of the event.''

The Gold Coast Indy has been run on the Gold Coast since 1991.

Support racing began today with the IndyCars and V8 Supercars taking to the Surfers Paradise street circuit for the first time tomorrow.

There is a stream currently running for IndyCar practice at www.indycar.com

Live Timing & Scoring isn't wanting to work for me though.

I know Danica was 24th and last after having completed around 13 laps.

Perhaps unsurprisngly, All 12 drivers that have raced here before are in the top 12. The drivers that have never raced here before are several seconds off the pace of those 12 while they learn the track.

Thus far 4 yellows, Hunter-Reay spun & stalled, Helio has gone down an espace road & stalled trying to spin it back round, Servia went head-on in to a tyre wall & now Ed Carpenter has brought out the 4th yellow with a spin & stall.

Online stream's video has been horrendously laggy :( , the Audio has been OK fortunately :) The Live Timing hasn't worked all session :x

The promoter of this race think the Indy 500 is not a points race for any series, which was quite funny

I'd be amazed if the on-track commentators had seen an IndyCar race before (aside from the Indy 500), given the complete lack on non-PayTV coverage here. They may have seen some CCWS as they were getting Legge and Patrick confused for a moment.

Tagliani brings out the 5th yellow with a spin which resulted in slight contact with the wall at the Turn 7/8 chicane.

Dario's looking pretty good right now. I was expecting him to be a bit rusty. I guess that's why he's a champion
