It worked perfectly in Brands and looks like it'll be broadcasting this weekend.

He has optimism if nothing else.

Another man with optimism, James Nash:

Quote:
“I was probably a surprise to some of the teams who don’t know me. Having said that they know what Andrew Jordan can do and I put myself above him.

“Last year in the normally aspirated Vectra was a real grind, but as soon as we tested this car with this engine I knew we’d be there. I feel on top of my game and at Brands it was nice to put moves on people and move on to the next target instead of driving on my mirrors, which is a demoralising experience.

“The first win needs to happen fairly soon so I can get that weight off my shoulders. Every time we hit the track I feel we are in the top three or four pace-wise and I expect us to be right in the hunt again at Donington.”

But he added: “The Hondas are going to be really quick this weekend – they’ve clearly got something very strong under the bonnet. Gordon Shedden drove straight past me at Brands Hatch and Matt Neal was on pole by miles. But I think Mat Jackson is going to be a real dark horse – his Focus seems to have excellent traction. Then again, we seem to be better into and through the corners so it’s nip and tuck.”

Notably, Nash doesn’t necessarily agree with claims made by many of his rivals that the newer turbocharged engines put a significant additional strain on both tyres and brakes over a race distance.

He said: “If they had tyre problems at Brands then they’ll have longer straights at Donington to cool their tyres down. I also don’t see the engine braking thing being an issue. Matt said a few things at Brands, but it didn’t stop him winning!”

To be fair to Nash, at least his optimism isn't misguided. Unlike that of Andy Neate.

Yeah I think Nash is a very good driver actually. In an equal car with Jordan, I think Nash would have the edge.

I remember him giving Plato a hard time in '09 on more than one occassion when they were Chevy teammates.

How can you believe that 8O Are you saying by driving straight, not deviating from your line and someone else turning into you doesn't deserve a penalty? You're living in a dream world... :p

Absolutely. I was watching the '09 review a couple of weeks back and it was during one of the Silverstone races where Plato and Nash raced very hard but fair against each other. In the post race interview Jason was asked if by being in the same team Nash should have been supporting him rather than racing him. JP's response was spot on, saying that each driver in the RML team had their own agenda and were driving for themselves, so there was no problem.

Nash didn't really impress me last year, he was a little wild, desperate at times, but also unlucky. After only one round this season he's looking great, back to what he was like in '09.

Yup. I remember in 2009 saying to myself 'who is this guy, he's great'. Last year though he was fairly anonymous. Maybe the Vectras are better this year as well, what with the new engine.

. Bad news on the Ben & Jerry's front. I went to buy it but 500ml was £4.18 (fucking hell). Decided to get 2 x 500ml Haagen Daas (one cookies and cream the other cookie dough) for £2.07 each. Bargain :p

I found it half price in our Spar shop (which is usually about twice the price of Tesco). £2.49. Ben and Jerry's for me. :D

Oh right :p Haagen Daas was half price in Tescos, thats why I went for it :p I'm hoping the F1 forum will finish about the same time as the ITV4 coverage starts. (they usually run it 1hr after BBC1 coverage ends and thats 10.15 i think).

In other news, I'll be trying out my new flask for the first time at Donington.

What you planning on taking? Tea, coffee, hot chocolate? :p Its meant to be warm on Sunday though (although every circuit in my experience seems to have its own microclimate and its ALWAYS cold at tracks :p)

Silverstone last year for the Renaults was fucking freezing. The two years before that I got sunburnt both times.

When I went to Brands Hatch a few years ago for the A1GP, it was quite cool with a stiff breeze, so it actually felt quite chilly. Ended up sunburnt anyway.

In 2008 at Silverstone, the forecast said it would be hot, which it was. Went in the grandstand and it felt like a freezer. Had to buy a hoodie because I was so cold :p
