They'll have to send a rollback into Thruxton village itself to recover Belcher's car.

So they left Jacksons car where it crashed? I wondered why the first sc was so quick.

Good to see Morgan finishing 8th, makes you wonder what he could have done if he hadn't been tapped at the start.

Explains the complaints of the NIMBYs, though - I wouldn't want to live in a village where it rains cars

To be fair, it would be difficult to have a crash much worse than Belcher's

You could hit a tree, which is much more likely now there's nothing to stop an errant car.

It's been like that for 64 years and nobody has been killed there yet.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe there is a reason as to why there's no barrier there, something about the land not being owned by the circuit (Church of England I think) and they won't let them put a barrier in.

MSA considers it safe, so who are we to argue with the experts ;)

Ian's right. Most of the fatalities down the years at Thruxton have been at Noble

Has Belcher's crashed been capped by anyone?

Who needs yellow flags? Or tyre walls? Or safety? Or basic driving standards? Both Shedden and Mat Jackson should be removed from race 3 results.

To be fair, there haven't been that many accidents which have reached that part of the run-off since the track was built. Usually not going fast enough.

If they can at least rebuild the tyre wall in a sturdier way, that would help.

The tyre wall does need beefing up, but I had to laugh at the yellow flags (since nobody takes any notice of them anyway), as if that was going to magically stop the cars crashing there.

They're supposed to slow...

Jackson says he saw a green flag before the overtake. It must have been pretty marginal if there was a green flag before the sc boards, but possible. Would need to see it again and I'm sure the stewards will be having a look.

I think its a bit like the barrier where Simonsen died at Le Mans, it was like that for years without a problem, but now there has been a potentially serious incident, should something be done?

True and safety upgrades have also aided people escaping uninjured.

But you can only ignore a sequence of events for so long until it's Goodnight Vienna for someone.

If the officials are still arseholes, then it's acceptable to "setup" an overtake while still in the yellow zone, as long as you don't physically overtake the car before the green flag (in order words, you can pull alongside).

Had the very same argument with MSA officials years ago, sometimes they ignore the blindingly obvious.

It's the age old argument that it's better to be preventive rather reactive, but if something happened before, then it could happen again (unless it's something so obviously freakish).

Cars going off at a fast corner will happen again. The outcome might be different.

But like been pointed out, they're stuck with what the landowner will allow.

I wonder how many times Belcher's car rolled anyway....

Could've been 1, might've been up to 5 or something if he was unimpeded.

Then he'd have to have kept his foot on it through the yellow to pass after it. Park him for failure to slow under yellow.

Safety is not an option.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure it was double waved yellows as well, rather than a stationary yellow. Personally I think that any driver that didn't demonstrate a slower sector time through there should be parked for the next round.

Actually I saw a more dangerous disregard for yellow flags at Donington. I was stood at the Old Hairpin, and if you recall, Hunter Abbott got spun on the first lap of the race. His car didn't go deep into the gravel trap, it was only just off the edge of the track, right in the firing line. He didn't get out stratight away, and the Marshals ran out to help him out the car and escort him back to safety behind the barrier. I was surpised they didn't call a safety car because it was a really dangerous position. As the cars came storming down the craners on the second lap Abbott was still in his car and the marshals were still stood by Abbott's car by the edge of the track, and they tried to cover it under double waved yellows. But of course this is BTCC so nobody took a blind bit of notice. Several drivers were clearly 'on the limit', and Dave Newsham was clearly beyond it because he spun off. Don't think you could see the whole situation on the TV pictures.

I find the whole thing ridiculous, but I guess we'll have to wait for someone to get hurt before something gets done...
