None of the other series would have either.

The Dunlop Bridge was never that high anyway? No worse than any other bridges at other tracks.

Well the one at Brands was low enough to get taken out by a lorry.

And Bruno Senna nearly smeared himself against the Snetterton bridge, if you remember.

I could definitely see an FRenault car getting that far up with persuasion.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Thats true, it could happen but it's unlikely.

There's Formula Ford there this weekend. And the first meeting was old F1 cars

Formula Ford doesn't exactly have much power to demand what safety regulations are put in place. And Historical meetings have as much power as me.

That wasn't my point. I was meaning there is the potential for a car to hit the bridge, because Phil was saying how it was virtually impossible for a touring car to hit it

My point though is that why the Bridge is any more special than other bridges in terms of safety? Chris van der Drift tried taking out one of Brands' access roads but there wasn't a sudden cry for low bridges to be raised.

I don't think it's necessarily about bridges that are already there. I should imagine you're not allowed to erect a new bridge with that little clearance, and as the Dunlop Bridge has already been dismantled, it is effectively a "new" bridge

It's the same with something like Eau Rouge - a new corner with a similar incline wouldn't be allowed due to the rules, but it's allowed to stay because it's already there

Yeah I see what you mean. Its a shame but I guess we've got to live with it. Hardly the end of the world.

The Dunlop Bridge was iconic but didn't affect laptimes so I don't see what the problem is. As long as it is placed in a position of high visibility for both TV and spectators then it should still have the impact it always did. I assume the Spitfire is not positioned down by the Craner Curves anymore?

They took that down before the work even started because it was basically falling down iirc

Took it down because they kinda had to. Dunlop bridge on an F1 circuit? Not going to happen.

Could've replaced it with a bright yellow Pirelli one...

In support race news, FBMW runner-up Jack Harvey will be competing in the FRenaults this weekend.

Had to be taken down though. The new pit lane was going there, remember.

That it was Dunlop wasn't a problem in 1993 when it became the Campari Bridge. Legend has it that some of the cars were more blue when they finished the race than when they started
