luke wrote: The old Surfers race track was very entertaining. Very fast and flowing. To be fast you had to have no fear though T1 (Taken flat at around 230kph). Any fear in taking that corner usually ended in disaster. what happened to the track? From the pic the track looks small... but is that me? |

It used to be on the right hand side as you drive into Broadbeach from the motorway in Carrara. In 2002 or 2003 it was levelled and now has a bunch of 2 story luxury homes with canals. I think the place is called Emerald Lakes now. |

Not looking good for us being at OP, really is no point if we can't secure drivers who would make it worthwhile. |

Sorry, we don't like spending 70k repairing cars. Apparently some utes guy has the cash to drive but a) they are useless, b) after bathurst the last thing we want is someone sexing the wall. Just not worthwhile to spend all the cash to go and learn and achiever absolutely nothing. God damn we need Rollinson and Macintye as full time drivers for next season. |

The track was sold during 1987, originally the plans included a golf course.... the fact the place sat around for so long is awful, it was a ripper race track. Very high speed, and long enough in length. The owner who sold it originally had plans to built a new one.. it never happened,. The track hosted amongst other things 12hr races, a yearly ATCC and AEC round, and in 1985 even had a round of the World Sportscar Championship scheduled, though the event never happened. |

When did Utes drivers become the whipping boys of the V8 Supercars? Just another reason they should've stayed on their own package and not bowed to the whims of the AVESCO empire |

Oh it was sold before i was even born, no wonder why i never heard of it before Shame, would of been cool to have that track around now, Much rather that instead of Queensland Raceway. Back on Oran Park, im gonna miss it when it's gone, i love the track. |

Looks like Gene "might" be driving at OP though no word if the 2nd car will be (no point if it's some randy driver). being the newbie data engineer it would probably mean the other data engineer would take care of gene instead of me eventhough gene is the driver I have worked with all season but anyway we will see. Still, would be good if gene got another run in the car this season, he deserves it. |

I am a Frosty fan more so than Whincup. But it's great to see Whincup lift the title. I do like Whincup. But Frosty is the man! |

What is everyone's favourite Oran Park memory?? In 1987 OP was the scene of the Lansvale Smash Repairs team's (now Tasman Motorsport) first touring car victory, when Steve Reed won the celebratory 25th Anniversay of Oran Park race.... |

Paul Morris's car on fire after the start in 2000 or 1999. |

Scariest moment would have been the start crash involving Larkham and Morris. LOL moment would be Matt Neal writing off a PMM car in practice or qualifying. Another moment that stands out is LP having a great save coming off the bridge. Nothing too special though. Seeing a Lansvale Smash Repairs car winning would have been great. It doesn't look that bad, but was meant to have caused a fair bit of damage. |

TV COVERAGE FOR THIS EVENT HAS CHANGED from what was initially listed. Sunday coverage will be starting at 1pm instead of the V8 site listed 2pm. This is probably due to the fact that the races are 144km long compared to the usual season length of 120km. Part 1 of Practice has been a non-event after Michael Patrizi bought out a red flag mid way through and the session did not resume Code: V8 SUPERCARS - Practice 1 |

From correspondents at Oran Park December 05, 2008 TEENAGE motor racing driver Lucas Dumbrell has been taken to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after a crash during a support race to the V8 Supercar championship at Sydney's Oran Park. Melburnian Dumbrell, the younger brother of Holden V8 Supercar driver Paul, rolled his car several times during a Formula Ford race on Friday. The 19-year-old had to be cut from the wreckage of the open-wheeler car, and was taken to Liverpool Hospital. Officials said he had suspected spinal injuries but was conscious. Lucas' shaken brother did not take part in the V8 Supercar practice session held immediately after the Formula Ford event, going to the hospital to be with his brother instead. Lucas is in his first season competing in the Australian Formula Ford championship with Team Sonic. The accident caused the abandonment of Friday's Formula Ford race. AAP |
