Coulthard slows on the last lap.

McLaughlin wins.

Coulthard had a gearbox failure on the last lap and the DNF impacts the Team Standings more.

https://www.motorsport.com/v8supercars/news/penske-non-committal-supercars-future/4811917/

Quote:
While a Penske exit from Supercars is far from a given, there is still a reluctance from the team's US base to publicly commit to the category beyond this season – particularly given the uncertainty created by the coronavirus pandemic.

Team Penske president Tim Cindric told Motorsport.com: "With everything that is going on in the world it is probably a better conversation in a few months.

"Like many teams, we feel we need more time to better understand where Supercars is headed and the effects of this pandemic before we make too many comments about 2021 and beyond."

DJRTP managing director Ryan Story, who engineered the original DJR/Team Penske deal, wouldn't be drawn on the rumours when approached by Motorsport.com.

“We don’t comment on speculation," he said in a statement. "Our focus is on here and now and getting back to racing this weekend after a three-month absence.”

Supercars in the last year

GRM: gone
Nissan: gone
Holden: gone
Virgin Australia : administration, purchase and likely re branding
FTA TV: gone?
Covid 19 restrictions
23Red racing: gone (5th in championship)
Penske: gone?

There is no hiding it now. It is looking grim for 2021.

I think they might be OK for next year as long as they don't lose more teams. At least they'll still be able to run the current Commodore and Mustang anyway, beyond that they'll have to bring in at least one new manufacturer and that will be difficult unless they make it easier and cheaper to enter the series.

The COTF was meant to bring the manufacturers in left right and centre. There was Nissan, Volvo and Merc and they all left.

Merc was a non-factory effort and Volvo's moves will always be a bit of a mystery, but the fact SC didn't do more to ensure Nissan were competitive and running at the front is just idiotic. Nissan were basically a lock for long-term series involvement unless Supercars completely neglected them, which they did. It kinda proves how up their own arses management were at the time that they just thought they'd open up the regs to new manufacturers without any effort to tighten competition or lower costs, and brands would come running in. Combine the fact they didn't think about allowing coupes in until pretty much every midsize sedan was cancelled, and it's not surprising the series is in its current state.

Speedcafe reporting that Sydney might replace Winton on the calendar due to the pandemic
https://www.speedcafe.com/2020/07/01/se ... ce-winton/

Paul Morris was on Dale Jr's podcast earlier today, pretty good show & featured a little bit of everything (alot of discussion on Jr's trip back in 2007 to Phillip Island, Bathurst & the Gold Coast)

At this point I'm not sure the Victorian teams will be able to get to Sydney for that event.

Sydney will run in place of Winton's July slot - fans will be allowed. Same format as the first round at Eastern Creek, but Saturday's race will be under the lights. Winton only postponed for now

Victoria and NSW are going to be closing their borders from tomorrow, meaning that the event will probably have to be called off entirely unless the Victorian teams can get permits to travel.
