So frustrating that we were given false hope too. I couldn't believe it when they said he was conscious and was thankful for that news. Then, well...

There's a lot I don't know about motorcycle racing, but can someone explain what caused him to come across the track like that? I've obviously seen plenty of falls and close calls but I can't recall ever seeing a rider drifting low and slow across the track like that. Did something break?

Regardless, RIP Marco. Such black, black days in motorsports right now...

Rossi did all he could to avoid first a collision with Edwards but then with Simoncelli. It was just too little too late, but you can really see he tried everything he could, even before Edwards who really didn't see it coming. Poor Marco, I hope he didn't suffer. :(

I don't agree here.
Edwards definately saw it coming, you can see clearly that he did EVERYTHING (correct) to avoid poor Marco. Don't forget they're traveling at speeds around 160 kph at that time.
First you see him move his knee and he changes his line, changes his focus (target fixation) as you can see Edwards' helmet moves away to the right from where Marco is going. And look at the angle both Edwards and Rossi already have (facing the right side of the track) right before impact with Simoncelli.
It's just incredible that this freak accident happened as it happened.

I feel sorry for Edwards and Rossi but most for Simoncelli's family, friends, fans and team. :(

I think because Simoncelli's bike found grip in someway he was just hanging on to the bike hoping he could push himself up from the ground (with knee or elbow) to get back on it again.
This happens quite often in bike racing (Edwards had an amazing save coming out of a corner a couple of years ago which resembles my explanation a bit)

Even if he survived, by looking at the picture i posted, he would've been terribly crippled.

Here's an aftermath picture.
It looks like a repeat of Tomizawa... but you'll be the judge.

It was at Jerez I recall, he saved it at the first corner during qualifying I think.

We should NEVER go back to those countries which have absolutely NO RESPECT and NO SKILL. Stay in Europe, you fucking Bernie. We saw it in South Korea also when it took them 10 minutes to clean few debris. :yuk:

WTF! That's unacceptable! How on earth is this possible these days. The guy has neck/head/chestinjuries and they DROP HIM. What's this with medical personel and MotoGP?
Just :yuk:

Well remember Daijiro Kato?? He was literally thrown on the stretcher like a piece of debris while he was already in life threatening condition.

Never go to such countries which don't have motorsport History. This is a joke. If I was Simoncelli's family or even a driver, I would attack them in a court. In 2011 this cannot happen.

More due to the fact that they where still racing with that accident, and he was completely on the track. But yeah that still was unacceptable.

God, i wasn't even watching the race cause i tought it would not be that much interesting, my brother woke me up hours later saying Simoncelli died, and i didnt even realize it at the moment. I'm starting now.
You cant even understand how sad it is if you've not seen him in Italy cause you cant be able to get all of the shades of his caracter, not for your fault obviously. He was one hell of a guy, one hell of a guy, always able to make you laugh just with a funny face or saying something you would not expect. One true son of Romagna, the region of italy he came from, the region that gave birth to all of our greatest drivers, "the land of petrolhead" as we call it. His funny face, his funny talk, his funny accent, his funny hairs his great mood. I dont know what you could really get of him as a person out there, but i dont think you could really get how a humble man and pure old style driver he was. I know he has been criticized a lot for his way of racing, some said he was dangerous, some said he was stupid, i think he was just learning to ride to the limit, just like Stoner the year before he arrived at Ducati. I think in a year or two he would have became world champion. I think starting from today the motogp will be a lot more boring thing to watch. I remember, just to show how he was, when he was invited to race in SBK with the same bike as Biaggi in Imola, the way he overtook Max almost dragging him down, that was pure fun and pure Sic style. They never loved each other, and he said something like "when Aprilia invited me here they say, do what you want but dont mess up with max, and then that happened, but what can i do he was slower" . I think this is not the way a young guy like him, with all of his life ahead deserves to leave, but he knew it's part of the game and he accepted it even if this is sad as hell. I would like to say more but i still dont know what to say and the fact i must use english doesnt help. I think how funny would be to hear him speaking in english too, a total wreck i guess with some italian swearing here and there, lol.
And in the end i'm not sure but i would not be surprised if Valentino will announce his retirement at the end of this year, been a sad year and ended by hitting to death his closest friend, i cant even imagine what his passing thru his head right now.

:x

I know the spectators didn't know anything about Simoncelli, but this is unacceptable.
