- What happened to Team Effenbert?

Liberty Racing fired all their riders, lost the Effenbert backing and have made no announcements since the last race of 2012. Apparently they have bought BMW Italia's two bikes from last year but there are no confirmed plans to race them. A few places were reporting that they would appear in all the European races this year with Lorenzo Lanzi as a rider, but Lanzi has said he's made no agreement with the team.

Anything will be fine as long as it is no Checa walkover :( Hopefully the Kawasaki's tyres will last a bit longer and looking forward to how Davies gonna go

I thought the Ducati's weren't that great during winter testing.

I'm loving the amount of large, readable numbers on most of these bikes. I can't stand the trend of weird fonts and multiple colours that has taken over recently.

Agreed. I totally hate the fake headlights though.

Teams have arrived at Phillip Island for the first round. There was an unofficial test today to get them acclimatised to the new surface and already Tom Sykes, Jules Cluzel and Leon Camier have had crashes. No electronic timing today but the official test is on Monday and Tuesday next week.

Laverty fastest in the first official test session, ahead of the two Hondas. Melandri 5th, Sykes 7th. Australian wildcards Stauffer and Allerton showing well in 11th and 15th. Ducati struggling with Checa in 12th. Neukirchner crashed hard and got the session red-flagged, not sure if he'll be out for second session. Rea, Guintoli and Stauffer also crashed without injury.

Lots of interesting things to mention:

  • Top 11 riders within 1 second, entire field within 2.6 seconds
  • All 6 manufacturers in the top 6 and separated by 0.3 seconds
  • Both Aussie wildcards right in the mix and potential points scorers
  • Checa fastest overall despite being way down in early sessions
  • Fabrizio's private Aprilia is as fast as anything else out there
  • Aprilias are the fastest in a straight line - works team clocked at 323 km/h, Fabrizio at 321
  • Other top speeds: BMW 321, Kawasaki 318, Honda 317, Ducati 316, Suzuki 315
  • Federico Sandi on the notoriously slow Pedercini Kawasaki only 3 tenths off Baz's works bike, both having never been to Phillip Island

Yes, and some minor rib injuries too.

Max Neukirchner is currently awaiting an MRI scan to decided whether he's fit to race or not.

Sam Lowes was over a second quicker than anyone else in Supersport, with a time that would have put him ahead of 5 Superbike riders. Supersport also had a spectacular opening practice session which saw 11 crashes and was stopped 5 times.

There are rumours going round that Silverstone aren't paying their sanctioning fee and that the British round will be moved to Turkey instead, which would be terrible. It's also looking likely that the remaining empty space on the calendar will be dropped.

More bad news: WSS race shortened by 6 laps due to tyre wear concerns, WSBK races could also be shortened. Decision to be made some time today.
