Atlanta >>> Phoenix for 2nd race of the season. Though here we wont see much of the aero, as tyre wear is key.

As bad as they struggle to sell tickets at Atlanta, why the hell would the put it this early in the season when the weather has such a high chance of being cold.

Logistics. It's just as stupid to hold a race in the Southeast one week and travel to the Southwest the next.

They should have no problem selling out.... what with the 30,000 seats they tore down in the winter.

I actually like Atlanta one of the faster cookie cutter tracks usually has close finishes

That would actually be awesome. It's like 1993 all over again, a snow out!

First chance to see what kind of racing the new aero and engine rules can produce.

In the interest of fair reporting, since typically the following weekend was at the Rock, it rained last weekend, and is forecast to rain/freezing rain this weekend. Attempts at Phoenix and Fontana as second race weekends? Rain in both this weekend also. NASCAR was gonna be pretty effed no matter how it scheduled it!

Such a waste of a great track :(

Why don't they take one of those crappy 1.5's out of the Chase, like Texas and put Atlanta there instead? Would be a much better test for the teams.

Sounds like they should just name the race the "Icebreaker 500".

I predict 2 laps of racing after every restart, then long single file processions. Maybe a late caution for some lolz at the finish.

Seriously, I can't see the current aero package producing a single decent race on the 1.5 milers. I really hope I'm wrong, but how is less horsepower going to help?

Heard that next year, they plan to go to a 4" spoiler (currently 6") after a Charlotte test last December where they went down as low as 3.5" and the drivers loved it.

They are worried about the racing and making changes progressively, that's good enough for me.

Also, last year Atlanta and Texas were epic. Sometimes the race can be nice. And being hard to pass is nice for strats, but only one or two races like that. Less horsepower keeps cars closer. Look at NCWTS at Fontana. In the early 90's, Michigan races looked like SS. Less HP and more drag.
