I was actually watching that moment. It came out wrong but I think what he was trying to articulate was that qualifying at the plate tracks should be all about how much speed the team could squeeze out of their car, not jockeying around for a big run in traffic.

Another classic Dega moment. I remember we were coming home from Disney World and listening to the race on the radio so only got to listen as Jimmie pulled out and he and Jr were eliminated from contention.

EDIT:**BONUS CONVERSATION STARTER**

What's your favorite 2.5mi+ racing?

A.) Pre-RP...All kinds of crazy stuff...real racin'.
B.) Post '87...cool slingshots, kinda stabilizes in this era till the 2000 Daytona 500 snoozefest
C.) "Dale's Last Win" - 2001 EA Sports 500 setup with the roof fin, intense racing all the time.
D.) 2002-2007..kinda liked the 90's get singled out maybe a slingshot or something like 2006
E.) COT era...More pack racing than ever, bunched up finishes and the tandem draft is born.
F.) 2011...all tandem, all the time. The greatest equalizer.
G.) Current era...seems to be blue ballz cause guys clusterfuck way to easy.

Whew, this took a lot longer than I anticipated.

My pick is a tie between C and F, that roof fin racing was legendary, but 2011...lead changes for RP that year: 74, 88, 57, 72. :8:

According to a mention in "Garage Cam", in another classy move by NASCAR, they did not approve of Labonte's split scheme. So apparently both sides will be the Kellogg's scheme (with his debut start in the middle, that seemed to be overlooked)..actually not mad, prefered that side anyways.

Why the heck would NASCAR ban that particular split scheme when they allow the 18 M&Ms, 1996 Valvoline, 2000 Hot Wheels, most of the Cartoon Network cars, etc?

Not sure if anyone here saw the initial scheme for the #5 truck but they made them change their number font too, thus killing the scheme.

The 2007 Daytona races were the absolute peak of plate racing IMO. Cars were aerodynamically slippery, the track was worn out and bumpy as fuck, it was absolutely bananas. This clip sums it up perfectly:

iirc, the last time nascar made a team change their scheme was with James Hylton in the 1980s. gj nascar
