I'm rooting for Stewart on this one but in my opinion Edwards will sadly take the Cup trophy home.

I'm leaning towards wanting Carl Edwards to win. If you don't count points adjustments for the Chase, he is leading points in that aspect as well. (By quite a bit more too.) Yeah yeah, I know they're two different systems, but seeing as how Edwards has done so well overall and not just in the Chase, I'd like to see him win.

And yes, also to show how shitty the Chase is to begin with.

I won't be happy if Carl wins it. That's for sure.

I don't want Carl Edwards to win simply because he's a piece of shit.

Also to mention, there are only 3 other drivers that only won one race and still win the cup in the same season: Bill Rexford (1950), Ned Jarrett (1961), and Benny Parsons (1973).

Not sure why people are rooting for Edwards specifically because it makes a joke of the chase. All a one-win championship will make NASCAR do is fuck around with the points system again, giving 10 points for a win and an extra 50 for 2 wins in a row or some shit. And it won't change a thing about the racing.

You forgot the reason this whole damn chase exists:

Matt Kenseth (2003).

That's exactly the reason I don't want Stewart to win. :p

I cant speak for anyone else, but that's exactly what I want Brian France to do. I want him to introduce an even more retarded points system, something that even the dumbest NASCAR fan thinks is too contrived. Something that turns the trickle of fans switching off into a near-torrent. I want Randy Bernard to ram IndyCar so far up his arse that the France family is forced to get rid of him in order to make sure that NASCAR can compete.

I want NASCAR out of their comfort zone and forced to become a racing series again as opposed to 'Vince McMahon Presents: NASCAR'.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

I wasn't including Matt Kenseth since we all know that.

How could we forget? For those too young to remember or those who have simply forgotten I'd like to remind you that it wasn't JUST that Kensleth only won one race. It was the manner in which he performed in nearly every race that made NASCAR panic and invent the Chase. Kensleth wasn't even really a contender in 2003 races. Often, he wasn't even a top 20 car. However, he and his crew were one of the first to figure out that you can simply ride around for 450 miles of a 500 mile race and simply utilize pit strategy or a quick pit stop to vault into the top 10 without ever having "earned" it. No fast car nor driver skill required!

Kenseth had zero poles, 1 win, 11 top 5s and 25 top 10s.
Contrast this with Ryan Newman who had 11 poles, 8 wins, 17 tops 5s, and 22 top 10s.... and finished 6th in the points.

I'm guessing you're being sarcastic (I can't tell, sorry), but.. Newman also had 7 DNFs to Kenseth's 2.. and both of Kenseth's were due to engine failures, at Talladega, and of course at Homestead, after he had already clinched it.

Also, if I recall, weren't a lot of Newmans wins were due to fuel mileage?

My guess is half of his eight wins came from fuel mileage races.

I think some of those were actually down to tire strategy. He stayed out on a few late cautions while some guys pitted but I'm pretty sure it was tires, not fuel, that was the strategic call in those races.

edwards hater here. also a stewart hater. fuck this championship. however, i am surprised by everyone's reasoning for rooting for earl. sure, him winning will make the chase itself look stupid, but at least he was 'competitive' all season. tony was utter shit all season and all he has done is tally off a few wins late and now he's a champ?! i think that's worse.

Tally off a few wins? I don't disagree, Stewart drove poorly all season, but you can't underrate his performance of late. He's been utterly dominant, the class of the field. Johnson did the same thing year after year...
