During the tire test, the new track was very line-sensitive. So much so that if you even stepped a foot out of the groove, you went straight into the wall. And drivers like Brad and Kurt did wreck. Kurt twice. One of the plans NASCAR considered at the time was to force the K&N guys to run their race off the racing line to rubber it in. All I can say if they do that is, lol.

They've (I'm not sure what it's called actually) diamond ground(?) the track last week in an effort to open up the second groove.

When you think of track failures, think of Indy for spectacle, this will be right up there with that unless they pull a miracle out the hat.

Wonder what that does exactly. Introduce more bumps/ruts in the primary groove to force you to run the other line?

I thought I understood that they used the NASCAR driving school cars to try to get some wear in the top grooves.

TBH, I'd rather there not be a second groove. It's fun watching drivers fight over one groove and all the contact that goes with it at a relatively low speed track.

It's going to be old Bristol on steroids.

I really feel that this race is going to be one groove snooze fest.

Frank Kimmel is one of several drivers heading to Phoenix to get some tire rubber worn into the track.

I remember that Nascar used to put cones out on the track during practice in order to force the drivers to try to work in a second groove. I wonder if they'll try that at some point this week.

There's only 1 degree of difference between the inside and outside its not like Bristol or Homestead progressive banking

Is it just me or did they add a LOT of banking to the backstretch dogleg?

Yes, from flat to 10-11 degrees, plus they tightened up the apex (it could be a little flatter entering turn 3, I might have miss-understood their specs on that bit).
Bear in mind that's a video game, but also bear in mind more often than not people comment on how realistic I get the tracks, guess we'll be able to judge ourselves later in the week.

But if what I've built is even half right, they've completely fucked a perfectly good track for no good reason.

The wisdom these days seems to be that any track where you can't run side-by-side for lap after lap is worthless :(

They already did, 14 years ago.
