I haven't seen an official announcement from the track, the family, or the media but I'm hearing that longtime Late Model competitor and 11 time Modified champion at Langley Speedway, Shawn Balluzzo may have died as the result of injuries sustained in a crash at the track last night.

The guy who won the Late Model feature at FALS is a friend of mine. I believe this is his 4th feature win of the season. He had a part break Friday night and was on Facebook looking for somebody who had a part to replace the part he broke. Obviously he found somebody with the part he needed.

Langley has confirmed that Shawn has passed away from injuries sustained in the crash.

Post subject:  Re: Local Racing Discussion

This is rough for everyone at Langley, the drivers, the staff, the fans...
Shawn has been a competitor at the track for decades and helped many people along the way.

Spending a number of years roaming around the pits, I knew Shawn, I know his older daughter who was often there to cheer him on, and his wife who has worked in the Langley Speedway office for many years. Well known among Langley fans, his younger daughter has been going through a serious fight with Leukemia. This is a tragedy and I really feel for his family.

I can't say I always cheered for Shawn, there were some years he was so dominant I just wanted to see anyone else win a Modified race. But even after so many years behind the wheel it was clear he was still at the top of his game.

Post subject:  Re: Local Racing Discussion

One thing that has impressed me is that even though the crash that killed Shawn Balluzzo was streamed live on NBC Sports Gold/Trackpass, I have not seen any replays or screen shots shared anywhere and the entire race night is not available for viewing on NBC Sports Gold. I've always thought video and images of fatal crashes shown on TV and liberally shared on social media are extremely disrespectful to the drivers who passed and their families. I think this really shows the respect that the track and the fans have for Shawn and his family because there was ample opportunity to record and share the video during the live stream.

Brenden Queen won the Hampton Heat 200 at Langley Speedway after a bold three wide pass on a late restart that ultimately left two of the top contenders Corey Heim and Connor Hall out of the race.

The race was shown live on NBC Sports Gold Trackpass and is currently available for replay.

was watching live, bold pass is a understatement. Would of been a interesting battle for the win if Hall & Heim didn't get cleaned out
