Good. If there's one surprise for me from this whole thing, it's that NASCAR is taking racial equality more seriously than just about any other form of racing.

"I ain't spend the money we are to participate in any political BS"

First of all, I had to read that like 4 times to even make sense of whatever redneck dialect of English he attempts to speak. Secondly, if you don't want "to participate in any political BS" then why would you quit the sport over a supposed political issue? And in case it wasn't clear enough that he supports Trump and his "political BS", he had to go and post one random word in all capital letters. lmao what a fucking tool.

sorry i meant What a fucking tool....SAD!!!

Spoiler:

My first thought was, who?
Not that I've been following NASCAR closely in recent years but I had no idea he raced in one of NASCAR's top tier series.

Jimmie Johnson & Ryan Blaney has announced that they will no longer use the helmet painting services of Jason Beam / Beam Designs after several inappropriate tweets

Ray Ciccarelli withdrew the #83 truck from Miami and Bayley Currey, who was going to drive the team's #49 team has apparently quit the team. His exit from the sport might be coming sooner than expected. I don't know what truck would replace the #83 truck in the field. I don't know if there were more than 40 entries filed for Miami.

Random thought:

With all of the support he's been getting recently in these changing times, does anyone believe Hendrick should consider Bubba for the 48 next season? If social media gets behind the idea in a major way, it's not implausible that it could parlay Bubba into a top-tier ride.

Add Joey Logano to the list.

You've probably all seen this already, but damn, NASCAR has gone up a few leagues in my estimation

There's also about 20 versions of a meme saying "The true confederate flag is waved with one to go" which I can't place the source on, but credit to whoever came up with that word murder too

There's no way that is real. The wording is too on-the-nose.

Yeah, hard to tell with this one. The problem is Mr. Ciccarelli deleted his Twitter account (good riddance, I say), and I can't find any archive at the moment (both archive.org and archive.is come up short). It doesn't "feel" right to me either but who knows.

Regardless, a few nitwits notwithstanding, it's nice to see that the general vibe on racing-focused social media has been very supportive of this decision.

I can't believe that Beam Design guy actually went ahead and lost God knows how much business with his social media tirade instead of just..not typing. Right now, the best thing to do is keep your mouth shut on social media or other public forums unless you're agreeing with the public opinion, whatever it is. A guy who works for Riot Games was put on leave for merely bringing up George Floyd's quite long criminal record. Can't have that kind of talk when we're trying to make him the next Jesus Christ, don't you know, so you're fired.

Given the watermark in the tweet links to a parody account, I'm gonna lean towards "fake" on this one.

You can post about Floyd's extensive criminal record and I've seen articles that dive into his history (both the bad and the good). And in a more private area of the Internet (like a Snapchat or whatnot) you have more leeway to do whatever you want.

The Riot Games guy however posted this (of which is addressed in this Snopes article) on Facebook.

People forget, over and over, that big social media is a public forum -- a big public forum. Anything you say on Facebook or Twitter etc. is the equivalent if you were giving a public speech in front of an audience of your peers.

You are tangentially representing who you are employed for, *especially* if you are an executive. I will note that Riot Games a couple years ago was involved in a pretty massive sexual discrimination lawsuit, so they might be a little more sensitive about this sort of thing than other places.

For me, in a public space, the general rule of thumb is that some degree of tact is required. Some people don't like to use any tact -- and some people admire "honest opinions". But this might mean a greater chance of issues as a result.

Many memes and click-bait are based on half-truths, falsehoods, oversimplifications, or huge bias (regardless of the subject). I think extra caution is needed for re-posting that sort of thing.

It's the same with the Beam Design guy: unknowingly or not, he made a business decision when he posted what he did.

My only issue with all this insanity is clearly we are not free to express our opinions. As you say, you must have tact, so even if you have a valid point that runs contrary to the tide of the time, you best not say it or type it lest you pay consequences disproportionate to what is said.

That's more a feeling I get than anything. I watched a video on white privilege and I came away with a new understanding of what they meant. I thought it was one thing and I was wrong, so at least now I understand their point. I don't like the wording, and I have questions, but if I asked them, or opened that conversation, I feel that I would either be censored or labeled a racist when there is no I'll intent.

As far as the Battle Flag goes, about time really.

EDIT: None of that is directed at or about Beam or Riot or anything to do with any of that. I am not condoning anything a dipshit bigot blathers on about.

Yea, one simply has to assume that their social media posts are speaking for their company even if it is done through a personal account. The guy never condoned the killing but merely asked people to stop 'deifying' Floyd. The man had more than one criminal record -- including robbing a pregnant woman -- and was high while about to drive on the day of his arrest/death.

It was the same way with the #MeToo movement. It started out with good intention but then became a crazy witch-hunt, with any female having hurt feelings or bruised ego using the 'movement' to get back at any male that denied them a promotion because they sucked (no pun intended) at their job in the first place or rubbed them the wrong way in general. And of course, the vocal woke mob would do the rest, stirring up such a social media shit storm that the company would be forced to let that person go. Over here, a man committed suicide for one such allegation and it later turned out the woman had lied when CCTV footage of the day of the alleged incident showed otherwise.

#BLM is headed the same way. It's going to convince every black person that every single adverse thing that ever happened to them was due to racism. Denied a promotion if you're the only black guy in a team of 10? Surely it's because of being black rather than one of those nine actually being a better performer than you, right? Tell that to Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella, who are non-white (and immigrant even *gasp*) CEOs of America's two single largest IT companies. But #BLM is going to devolve into a witch hunt where those simply expressing a different narrative to the woke people will be ostracised, thrown out of their jobs, etc.
