No pickup truck in the USA.

No truck series, no Cup series, that's how it works.

They can't just start with the Nationwide Series if they want to enter the sport?

Nope. Gotta do a year in trucks before anything.

From Jayksi
Quote:
Sponsorship woes may cost Kenny Wallace his ride: After 867 career starts in NASCAR's Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series, Kenny Wallace may be facing the end of the line. The nine-time Nationwide Series winner has sponsorship from American Ethanol and Family Farmers for just five races this season, including the just-completed Drive For COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway. Now, Wallace has been informed that unless he is able to secure additional backing, his run with RAB Racing will likely come to an end. "(Team owner) Robby Benton came to me and said, `We're going to run you for first five races of year," revealed Wallace today. "`If we don't have any sponsorship after that, I'm going to have to sell the ride.' He's already got some little rich kids calling about buying races, so I may be out of the car pretty soon. I'm heartbroken," said Wallace. "I worked my ass off last year to get my dignity back and prove to everyone that we could still run up front. And look at me now, running around like a bozo in a plain black car. It's demoralizing. I can't find any more money, so it looks like I'm not going to be a full time driver this year. If I don't have any money after California, the ride will go to whoever has money. Robby has to pay his crew, and I understand that."(GodfatherMotorsports.com)(3-2-2012)

I really hope someone steps up to sponsor Kenny and RAB because it absolutely sucks to face going back to a lousy ride after spending a year proving he can still be competitive again.

Maybe JWT will buy Kenny's ride?

On the subject of RAB, this picture caught my interest:

You can see the RAB Racing hauler in the background, between the Danica and Dollar General haulers. Looks like there's a large burger decal on the side that's either being put on or being removed. Perhaps they found a sponsorship deal and we just don't know about it?

Does Zaxby's have Burgers too?

I really wish Indiana had one.

JWT was going to race for RAB in the truck series before he got liquored up and arrested. I wish we could go back to the days of drivers getting rides because they deserve it and not because they have sponsors. More sponsors should sponsor teams and not drivers.

I'm a fan of Kenny's, I want him to get a sponsor so he can continue to drive the #09.

Pietro Fittipaldi's new car! Posted on his Facebook account

His new main sponsors are Garoto chocolates (the same from last year) and Mobil 1. Hopefully getting a new title in the Limited Late Models this year! Go little Fitti!

Looks like Sadler will be showing up for more cup races later this season, but with MWR
Quote:
Sadler to drive 5 races for MWR: Michael Waltrip Racing announced that Elliott Sadler will drive the team's #55 Toyota in five Sprint Cup races in 2012 beginning at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 18. Sadler will also drive the #55 in the August Bristol event, both Martinsville races and the July 15 race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Waltrip explained how Sadler came to drive the No. 55. "Elliott has the experience and attitude we were looking for," said the two-time Daytona 500 champion. "We'll pair him with Crew Chief Rodney Childers who builds really fast cars. We believe Elliott will do a great job." Waltrip drove the #55 in the Budweiser Shootout and will run in four more races in 2012. Mark Martin will drive the #55 in 24 races plus the All Star Race in Charlotte. MWR will name a driver for two road course events at a later date.(MWR)3-3-2012)

This belongs in the local racing thread, methinks.

SB Nation wrote:
Team owner Robby Benton, though, told SB Nation he takes exception to Wallace's approach. Benton said he's been trying to find sponsorship for Wallace over the past 14 months and is running a black, unsponsored car at Phoenix in an effort to show the ride is available.

But Benton feels Wallace's desperation is undermining his efforts to strike a deal with a potential sponsor.

"He thinks what he's doing is generating interest," Benton said. "But at the end of the day, it's making me and our race team look like a couple of asshats and trying to get people to feel sorry for him. That's not productive. You don't want people to feel sorry for you. We're trying to sell a strong, marketable program."

With all of Kenny's constant begging, past Ethanol pandering, and open bashing of pay drivers taken into account, I'm gonna have to side with Benton on this one.
