Wish Toyota would man up and run the new 86 in Nationwide instead of the shitty Camry.

That is great to hear. I hope racing is back in Irwindale sooner rather than later.

I'd be curious to see this idea explored in August before Smith makes a final decision to reconfigure:

Quote:
Tires -- not reinventing speedway -- might be Bristol's answer: #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr. had some advice for Bruton Smith: talk to the drivers before firming up plans to reinvent Bristol Motor Speedway. It might be a good idea for Smith to talk to Goodyear, too, given that changing the tires at Bristol might be a far less expensive alternative to changing the racetrack. Track owner Smith, chairman of Speedway Motorsports Inc., said he was embarrassed by the turnout for last Sunday's Sprint Cup race at the .533-mile track. Consensus was that the grandstands, which can seat 160,000 fans, were roughly half-full. Possible solutions could a include to a return to the one-groove racetrack that disappeared with a 2007 reconfiguration that added graduated banking and opened the outside lane. Side-by-side green-flag racing replaced the typical Bristol bump-and-run, which inevitably led to a rash of caution flags. Tires with more grip and faster degradation might change the complexion of racing at Bristol, if cars with new tires become significantly faster than those on old rubber. "I think if we show up at Bristol with a tire that lays rubber down and is really soft, and it wears out& we need to get it back to where tires mean something," said Aric Almirola, driver of the #43 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford. "Nobody really ever comes in and takes four tires and blows the field anymore." The bottom line is that, if tires degrade rapidly, you'll have cars running radically different speeds on the racetrack, and the mixture of speed and strategy should improve the action.

I'm all for tires falling off more everywhere, not just at Bristol, but other than letting new tires have a better chance at passing old tires on the bottom, it won't change a thing will it? The main problem is the multigroove racing that most fans just don't want to see at Bristol anymore, and that won't change unless you physically even out the banking.

Look at the last TBKOC race to see what new tires should mean to a race car... LOL

Sounds like the drivers being pussies and looking for a non contact alternative.

I guess I will put this in the NASCAR thread, but Jeremy Mayfield is almost back in a stock car..This time ARCA.

From Roger Carter Racing Facebook:

"Is working to get final approval to have Jeremy Mayfield drive the #40 at Pocono PA. In June. Jeremy and I go way back before his career in cup. We are good friends. We don't judge anyone at all at C2M. Jeremy is a great driver and we are good friends. I ask my fans to stand for the facts and not convict anyone on what is published. Innocent until proven guilty. I am loyal. He is a long term friend. He will show his dedication to our great sport. He can meet the requirements as a driver. That is the bottom line."

As long as he's clean, it'd be great to see him getting back to what he does well.

That doesn't sound as good PR. It took one line for the attention of the reader to shift from the ride announcement to the whole drug deal.

There's a new All-Star Race format...
Jayski wrote:
The NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race ... will consist of four 20-lap segments, concluding with a 10-lap sprint and a $1 million payout to the race winner. This year's format will place a higher premium for drivers who win one of the four segments, however, as the winners of the first four segments will move to the front of the field and line up 1-4 prior to the field coming to pit road for the final mandatory pit stop. Wherever the drivers are positioned as they come off pit road after that pit stop is where they will line up to start the final 10-lap segment.

Put the fastest cars and the front and hope that pit mistakes make it interesting again. Genius!

And what if the same driver leads at the end of each segment?

If a driver wins more than 1 segment, then whoever finished 2nd in the segment gets the next position.

What if a driver who wins a segment crashes in the next?
