You can say that about many drivers since the chase/playoff format or whatever the fuck it is now was introduced. The ability to perform at a high level across a whole season is not required anymore to be champion. You just win a race here and there, and if it's the right ones, congratulations.

The ideal tire would have more life than that, but today’s race was the most positively captivating Cup series race in what feels like ages. Pleased with it for sure.

Yes, really hope Goodyear doesn't chicken out of this type of tire due to image reasons or whiny teams. You have to think part of the reason for some of the blowouts were teams going beyond recommended tolerances, as is almost always the case in racing (remember F1 teams flouting camber limits and blowing up in Silverstone 2013).
