I passed out with like 70 laps to go and he was in 5th place. Then I watched the highlight reel and he was lower than the top 20. What happened? Bad pit stop? He was on the way to a top 5 easily. He had a fast car.

i only caught the end of the race - denny apologized during his post-race interview saying the team let him down with a bad pit stop

Team let a wheel loose during a stop which bounced off/narrowly missed a few cars.

I saw this interesting post on reddit about the many pit issues with the 23

Quote:
They lost 61 spots today on pit road.

By my count, we have

6 loose wheels on the season (Phoenix, COTA [3], Richmond, Dega)
a wheel fall off (COTA)
2 over the wall too soon (Martinsville and Kansas)
1 uncontrolled tire (Kansas)
At least 3 pit stops with double digit lost spots (Phoenix, Dover, Darlington) not including penalties or loose tires

And not the pit crew directly, but still pit road: forgetting to turn the water on at Bristol

How do you screw up on pit road at a track with untuned pit stops every stage and no pit crew at the track, I don’t know, but the 23 team did. Of all of those, the only stop that was Bubba’s fault was the 16 spot stop at Phoenix where he pulled in too close to the wall. That wasn’t the loose wheel stop.
