I think he quit after Larry Hollenbeck tried to kill him in '09.

Ah yes, one of the most classic examples of ARCA brakes.

Didn't he win the ARCA title in 2011? I'm no ARCA know-it-all or anything, but I'm pretty sure he didn't quit after that (epic example of ARCA brakes) wreck, and won the title a year or two later.

*EDIT*

He won the title in 2010. Nice way to come back!

I think he quit after being unable to get a decent nascar ride.

Money was the factor, I believe. The year after winning the ARCA Racing Series championship, he gave up his seat to a sponsored driver (Milka Duno. Really.) before his team disappeared at the end of the season due to funds drying up I guess. Appears his career is done after the death of his father in 2012, who ran the family business.

Most recently, he ran one Nationwide race for Rick Ware at Daytona and Andy Hillenburg at Talladega in a truck in 2011.

It would be so great if there wasn't a locked-in rule.

I would lock the top 10 from single car qualifying. The rest, have at it on thursday night.

Am I the only one quasi-worried about Smoke's leg? I wouldn't count him among the drivers I pull for, but holy crap, getting into a wreck where your leg gets jostled around a lot would do some pretty serious damage, wouldn't it? If I was a bona-fide fan, I know I'd be shitting my pants. haha

I know they're going to brace it as best they can, but looking at those scars he has, I can't help but cringe at the thought of getting into another wreck.

Yeah, when they say 65% healed, that's not all that great. But he knows the risk and I wouldn't bet on him being in the middle of any pack during practice.

That would just blow if he were to rebreak it though.

Don't know about ARCA, but MotorsTV does a delayed coverage of the trucks prior to the Nationwide race next week.

Looks like I'm gonna head to Daytona and watch the Bud Shootout (or whatever it's called now) and the ARCA race tomorrow. Somehow I'm more excited for the potential train wreck of the ARCA race more than the Shootout.

Spoiler:
"The No. 5 of Bobby Gerhart & No. 55 of Leilani Munter has failed post qual and times have been disallowed."

Apparently Gerhart was on pole, too.
