The first two positions in qualifying used to be a reward for the team that had the best body guys, the best engine shop, the best off season. The qualifying races were for everyone else.

Now we have a qualifying race... For a qualifying race.

Wat

Who the fuck cares if qualifying is boring. It's qualifying. Qualifying is suppose to be about the fastest car. Maybe we should have a best crash contest and whoever has the best crash starts on the pole. The current system on restrictor plate tracks is broken. Why do we need a prerace event for goddamn 5 minutes of "racing." It's not a fucking race, it's a random oh btw this car was the quickest. Oh yea it was the guy 4th in line, good job. Dear fans you have no idea what your looking at but just trust us, that guy was the fastest. Tune in folks though because this wild session might result in tempers flaring, rivalries and destruction that will make Dresden seem like a Cub Scout campfire. This has nothing to do with competition. Competition usually involves one team performing better than another team. This is as previously pointed out blind luck and if anything, this current format has removed all skill from the sport.

The fastest car should be the pole winner. Not the guys who lucked into a gifted position. Not the guys who had nothing to do with assholes wrecking in a different session ruining it for everyone else in that session.

Ok, first of all, qualifying is irrelevant in plate racing, we probably all agree on that, so the pole doesn't really mean anything and therefore it's not a sacrilege if a s&p car ends up on a plate race pole instead of a Jeff Gordon. Also, it's good if the billion man hours spent in 'massaging' the cars for that single car pole run is no longer a thing. As for the problem with teams not going out can be fixed simply by making a rule that you're out of the pits within 30 secs of the green or you're done.

Plate racing is a laugh anyway so the qualifying might as well be potluck if it produces a bit of excitement.

Fuck it, draw qualifying slots out of a hat then bring back IROC for a Sunday exhibition race with the top 5 NASCAR drivers going up against Indycar, tusc, v8 supercar and hell even f1 drivers if they're allowed.

Make speedweeks worthy again.

Makes sense, so NASCAR will avoid it. Sense melts the rotted lump in Brian France's head.

All that needs to be said.

Does everything need to be neon colors and flashing lights with zany sound effects? Is that what it takes to make the ratings soar and the Xfinity and Truck series put back on network television? Is that the things that going to get seats added to track and car counts up? Is that what's going to keep drivers from getting out of their cars and trying to fight other moving cars?

Look at Bowman Grey. That's the near future of this sport. Hope this "evolution" is worth it.

Reminder that they are racing at New Smyrna tonight, ACT heat races just concluded, Eddie MacDonald, Wayne Helliwell Jr. and Ray Parent won the heats, Florida Mod feature looks to be next, racing has been really good so far tonight.

The prospect of a car 20hp down on the rest of the field leading them up to speed and the likely results mean that yeah, qualifying is still pretty relevant on a plate track. Unless the point of racing to you is flippers and lulz.

when I used to consider nascar a motorsport, one of my favorite things to watch was daytona 500 qualifying. it set the start point for the season and you got to see the new schemes and driver lineup, which was pretty cool.

yea you're rigiht. why don't we just do what stewart said and have half the field run the opposite direction on the track. might as well be potluck if it produces a bit of excitement

Guys, I don't think practice sessions are exciting enough. They really need to put jump ramps and Michael Bay Explosion triggers on the track to keep my attention.

That happens during the course of a race anyway due to pit cycles being interrupted or people staying out or whatever and they deal with it so deal with it at the start too if that should happen. No worse than god damn rookies starting on the pole two consecutive years by rigging the pole.

Ultimately, plate racing is an equalizer where Jimmie Johnson's skill is brought down to David Ragan levels and it's just a show, not a proper race so have fun with the rules as much as you want. It's all fair game.

Just a shame that it's the sport's biggest race and what every outsider thinks represents the pinnacle of the sport, instead of a race like the Southern 500.

That was when NASCAR news wasn't on your TV/Facebook/Internet/Newspaper every single day of the offseason..
