That seriously must have been a freak accident for the kid to be hurt that bad. Maybe a stuck throttle?

From what was said by one of the drivers, he was tapped coming out of turn two and over corrected head on into the wall.

It's been confirmed that Tyler Morr, aged 12, has succumbed to his injuries. :(

That's horrible, I've had to deal with that a couple times in the MX community. The death of a child is just heartbreaking.

RIP Tyler

Ok, now it's being unconfirmed. Apparently by a family member, that the kid is still clinging to life.

Will just now until tomorrow when everything has had a chance to settle down, as to what condition he is in.

I'm in agreement as far as age limits go, but I'd like to see the cars used before I pass judgement.

Here's a video of the cars themselves, as for the specs, I've no idea.

It's most likely exactly what we call an "X-Car" at my track. Stripped street car with a cage and safey seat.
like so:

As far as I know it is supposed to be a "developmental" series. The cars have two seats and the kids must have an experienced adult driver in the car. Don't know that makes it any better, but this may be the end of the Kids Club, whether he makes it or not.

Yeah, it's no wonder the short track scene is dying out pretty quickly here.

What good does the adult driver do under race conditions? Who the fuck thought this was a great idea?

A 12-year-old boy racing in a youth division at Auburndale Speedway on Saturday night was critically injured in a crash, the Polk County Sheriff's Office has confirmed.

Tyler Morr of Arcadia was driving a stock car in a Kids Club heat race about 7:45 p.m. He was in the outside lane of a turn when he collided with a car in the inside lane and crashed into the track's outside wall.

Track rescue and medical personnel rushed to the scene, and Morr was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He was stabilized and flown to All Children's Hospital in Tampa, where he was listed in very critical condition this morning.

Morr's grandfather, David Morr, attended the race. There were five other cars in the race, and no one else was injured.

The Kids Club cars, less powerful than those driven by older and more experienced drivers, are built strictly for racing. Drivers wear helmets and harnesses, and speeds are estimated to be no more than 40-45 mph.

The remainder of Saturday night's schedule at Auburndale was canceled. The speedway posted a statement on its website saying, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Tyler Morr (and) his family and friends."

The Kids Club was started in 1992 as ARMY - Auto Racing Motivated Youth - as a program that teaches kids ages 10 to 16 how to race properly.

Polk County sheriff's traffic detectives are investigating an injured person investigation.

The last thing I'd want in my race car is a backseat driver, but it appears he did not have one with him. Of course I see in the comments on that story about 10 people asking "What is a 12 year old doing racing?"

The anti-racing crowd seems wanting to come out full force on this one.

To be honest, that's what the racing crowd should be asking as well. Bandeleros, Legends and Karts are one thing, but full bodied cars are another.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of an equivalent situation in open-wheel formulas, but even if there is I sincerely doubt it's to the extent of stock-car racing.

Just saw the report on Bay News 9 when I got home tonight. I guess he is stable but still in the intensive care unit. I'm assuming to monitor brain swelling.
