If he had to be cut out of the car but he was talking, then it must be a back injury. Poor guy.

The amount the safer barrier flexed was startling.

Yeah she shouldn't have hooked Hornish, even for that. Too extreme. Admittedly, I do wonder what how opinions would have changed if it were Kyle Busch being hooked by say... Tony Stewart instead. I'm sure it'd be justified in some people's minds. :p

No. It's not justifiable, no matter who does it.

I agree!

A guy has just been airlifted from the track and for all anyone knows is on the brink of death, yet the classless bitch deliberately turns someone into the wall. She's got no place in motorsport at any level.

I'm keeping an eye on twitter and if I see any updates on Eric McClure from reputable sources, meaning from Nascar or another media outlet, I'll pass the information along. I'm not going to post any rumors.

The most up to date information I can find is that Nate Ryan of USA Today reported Eric McClure was still talking to medical personnel while being loaded into the helicopter after being taken out of the car.

NASCAR: Eric McClure was "conscious, alert and talking to the attendants when he was transported down to (UAB)."

I just saw that as well. I guess since he was alert, we can probably rule out any serious injury to the brain. All of the safety precautions Nascar has in place worked to avoid a serious head injury.

Well, the fact that he's conscious, alert, and talking to the attendants is very good news, and frankly, that's the most important thing. He'll be hurt, yes, but at least he's awake.

Yeah by the sounds of it it doesn't seem like he has a head injury. I was wanting to say maybe he busted up his foot again, but I don't think they'd use a stretcher for that.

I bet Danica feels like an absolute idiot. Hornish had a Right Front tire down hence why he couldn't turn in the tri-oval and then to rub salt in the wounds Danica wrecks him. Fucken PMS'ing mole. I don't wish harm upon any driver (especially after what we saw today) but someone needs to wreck her hard to scare some sense and respect into her.

the severity of all this leads me to believe he coulda broke his back or his neck..hopefully its nothing that serious. either way we woulda seen a blue tarp out if not for the safer barrier. fingers crossed for eric

I know it's not much of an update, but SPEED reported that McClure is still conscious/alert/speaking at the medical center after being transported there. I guess we can draw from that that his condition isn't deteriorating.

Here is a new update from Bob Pockrass:

According to Eric McClure PR: @ericmcclure is alert and taking to family members. He is being kept overnight 4 further observation. #nascar

AP have a photo of what looks like someone passing him a headset in the helicopter, and he's holding out his hand to take them (of course he's laying on the stretcher), read into that what you will.

, they'd use a stretcher if he'd broken his foot as well, not like you can walk anywhere with a broken foot

My first instinct was the front bulkhead had come back and either trapped, or broken his foot/legs in the pedal area.

So he may just be really banged up? That's fantastic to hear after how serious the scene was just a few hours ago.

Kenny Wallace posted this on twitter a little bit ago.

A Lot have asked me about Eric Mclure? I talked to Wes Ward who is Eric Mclure's crew chief and he told me Eric is doing good :)

Wes Ward was Kenny Wallace's crew chief in the Nationwide Series a few years ago. It sounds like Eric McClure just got some bumps and bruises. It looked like it could have been a lot worse than that.

He was probably knocked out for a few minutes. I know from having 9 concussions that when you do wake up you don't really know what's going on. I've had no choice but to take a trip to the hospital in a neck brace just as a precaution. If you lose consciousness the medic is usually required to send you to the hospital to get a head scan. I've even had the misfortune of being airlifted for nothing but precaution. Talk about $$$.

Glad to hear Eric will be alright.
