The first Talladega race I remember watching was 1997 when Jeff Gordon's blown tire caused the big one.

neurovirus, nasty little bugger, very contagious but goes in 24-48 hours....

(also refereed to as stomach flu or gastric flu depending where you are in the world).

I tend not to ask for time off like this (back in the day) and would just call in sick that morning  obviously asking for time off, getting refused then becoming ill was like placing a big pink neon sign above your head reading 'sickie'.

My dad took a sickie in similar circumstances to go watch the Gold Cup at Oulton about 50 years ago, when he got back there was a note shoved through the door that simply said 'You're fired'

Does that mean the backstretch restart line will be 3/4 down the backstretch?

They're doing away with that for this week. Unless they run to the checkers under green, the race will not be officially over after a GWC until a car is in the grandstands.

Just put the MRN Radio stream in your workplace.

Problem solved.

put the line just before the entry to the airport, they will all be rushing to the airport with golf carts after the race anyway.

A bit late to the party, but my first end to end Talladega race:

Nobody could quite pull off saying "42 OF THE FINEST RACERS IN THE WORLD" about a stock car race like Ken Squier.

My first Talladega memories were the Busch Series wreckfest and Schrader's flip in '95.

Well... I saw first full Dega race I think in 2010... I'm young and don't remember too many things from NASCAR on Eurosport from 2004/2005 :C

I think my earliest Talladega memories were Schrader flipping on the backstretch and Craven going into the catch fence - so, 1995 and 1996.

Truth be told, the forecast for Monday and Tuesday look worse than that for Saturday and Sunday. Racing to half way in both races this week.

The first race I went to was the 1999 Pepsi 400 when I was 10, but I never really started watching on TV consistently until 2003. First 'Dega memory was the '03 Spring race when Newman's tire going down triggered The Big One on lap 4 or something. Then Sadler's flip in the Fall race, I gave up my ticket to a Buccaneers vs. Saints game to stay home and watch it.

Favorite 'Dega memory besides working on the #30 car in last year's ARCA race was in 2011 when a friend and I randomly decided to drive up to Alabama from Orlando at 3 AM the morning of the truck race. We stopped at a Walmart just outside of Atlanta, picked up a couple Crimson Tide folding chairs, cooler and a cheap tent. Scalped tickets and winged it the whole weekend, complete with watching an LSU vs 'Bama game at a packed Applebee's (Talladega Nights, we had to go to Applebee's) then going to a local bar called the Montana Saloon. Ended up passing out in the truck at the Saloon's parking lot (wasted money on the tent, oh well). Woke up Sunday AM to a nice letter on a napkin under the windshield wiper from 2 girls who my buddy apparently got to know pretty well that night. Watched the Cup race that day slightly hung over, thought we saw Regan Smith die, photo finish... drove 9 hours back to Orlando and made it to work Monday morning with 3 hours of sleep.

My first Talladega memory was 1987 when Bobby Allison sailed and Davey Allison won and restrictor plate racing was never the same. That may have even been the first race I watched altogether.
