What and where are you racing?

waterford speedbowl, x car division. 1989 nissan 240sx

Nice, what are car counts like over there? I always kind of liked 4 cylinder divisions, even though FWD can be a little awkward to watch on smaller dirt tracks, I've seen some fantastic races on some of the larger tracks.

I was bored out of my mind this weekend, first weekend since mid-April that I haven't been to at least one race. Was a good season though, visited 19 different tracks (18 in NY, 1 in PA), 57 shows total, should have been to more but we had a lot of rain in April and May.

Back in July I went to Oswego a few times, first on 9th for the winged supers and again on the 23rd and 24th for RoC Weekend. On the 9th they took this old Jim Shampine car out and ran it around for a few slow laps.

On the 23rd there were many tributes to the late Richie Evans on what would have been his 70th birthday, cars ran with a small 61 sticker it and it was the 61st running of the race. My favorite tribute was this car that was run in the Super Stock feature by Chris Zacharias iirc, they had some mechanical issues early in the day but were able to get it repaired for the feature but they were well off the pace of the leaders.

They are having Turkey Night at Irwindale Speedway. 3 Different USAC classes. They just had 2 cars flip before they even got to the green in the first race.

I read that Landon Cassill, Colin Braun, Cale Gale, David Ragan and Steve Wallace are all entered in the Snowball Derby next weekend. Johanna Long won it last year and she is entered again this year.

Heading out to Wall Stadium, in Wall, NJ in about an hour or so. The track, formally known as Wall Township Speedway, is hosting it annual two day Turkey Derby event, including the headline Saturday modified races, with a stellar field on tap. My fifth consecutive year going, always a blast.

David Reutimann is running a charity race at East Bay Raceway in Tampa on Dec. 10th, I've been lucky enough to do some marketing there so I should get to meet him!

Colin Braun isn't running in the Snowball Derby. Erik Darnell was a late entry. Today is the first day of practice and Steve Wallace has already had to change engines. He is driving a car owned by Truck Series crew chief Richie Wauters.

Changing the subject a bit, Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA, is trying to get permission from King County to expand their facilities. Right now there is the road course and drag strip, if they get permission, they will make a 1/4mile oval, along with a longer a new drag strip, make some adjustments to the track, and major adjustments to the facilities at the track, including safety of the track and more spectator viewpoints/areas. Apparently according to them it's a $135M renovation that could potentially attract NASCAR or IndyCar with all of the safety upgrades and improvements.

I'd write more but I'm quite busy with life at the moment, if anyone would send a little note here in support of the development that would be greatly appreciated:

And for more information on the developments and the track itself either google them or check out their website here:

Since IndyCar doesn't race at Portland anymore and there's no other significant presence of a NASCAR/IndyCar-ready track in the Pacific Northwest, I hope that King County will give the green light to this project.

Chase Elliott became the youngest driver to win the Snowball Derby at 16 years of age. Elliott and DJ Vanderley raced side-by-side for the lead for most of the last 5 laps before Elliott finally cleared him in turns 3 and 4 on the final lap. Ross Kenseth finished 3rd after advancing out of the last chance race and being a lap down at one point during the race. Landon Cassill finished 4th and Heath Hindman finished 5th. David Ragan finished a couple of laps behind after losing 3 laps because of some sort of suspension issue. Steve Wallace dropped out before halfway because of crash damage. Last year's winner, Johanna Long finished last this year after a wreck just before the 100 lap mark.
