He wasn't even on grass all that much anyway. Just a bit at the end, it made no difference in his crash. It was all about the angle and the fact it was concrete and not a SAFER barrier. He really needs to stop moaning about grass.

That's my point. All that sliding on the grippy asphalt just curved his trajectory into a deeper angle of impact. He would have been at a higher speed in grass but his impact would have been a lot further down the wall and thus at a much more generous angle.

Even if he'd wound up hitting some uneven surface down there and tumbled, that's still much more preferable than a single, massive blow to the wall.

just like gravel traps in f1 - nascar needs grass to keep drivers honest. i'd hate it if all the tracks had to have "yellow line" rules like talladega
