Day racing at Darlington used to be insanely fun to watch because of the tire drop off. Cars skating around everywhere. God why can't they run the Southern 500 during the day!?

Day had nothing to do with it. It was all about the surface. The most recent repave used a totally different asphalt mixture from what had been used at Darlington the past 60+ years which used to have sea shells and shit like that ground into it. Now they have some fancy durable mix for all the repaves since then, like they use on highways.

You can't say the day had NOTHING to do with it and it was only the surface. Regardless of surface, that Labor Day sun beating down on any track surface would have way higher track temps then them running in April at night. It would definitely contribute it's fair share.

I never understood the whole track is bumpy = bad sort of thing. Did it ever ruin the racing or did it just lower the chance at

A

NEW

TRACK

RECORD

????????

A car going 190mph looks the same as 195mph. Bring back drivers having to wear mouthguards at Talladega. /rant

Having some bumps puts things more in the drivers' hands and makes small mistakes more likely which can lead to more passing. What's not to love??

Look at California... that place is bumpy and cool as shit now

Even if a car's going slower, bumps make it look quicker. Bumps are tast.

Actually thinking about it, the importance of bumps is way underestimated. Bumps could save NASCAR

Any given track will be a hair greasier in the day than night, that's a fact but Darlington's legend was built on its surface. Watch the final Southern 500 from 2004, was run at night and the cars were on the ragged edge 99% as much as any day race.

Especially if some hero decides to bump Brian France into oncoming traffic.

They should have known better than to stay in that area

Morrow and Clayton County are not the best areas in the world

Unfortunately for how small the team is and their budget etc.. they stay where it's cheap.

Yeah, main hauler is already at the track, but the car stayed an extra day at the shop to get it prepped for Atlanta.

Some Kurt Busch hardcore fan realized that was the hauler of the team Travis Kvapil was driving for this weekend and decided to deal his own brand of vigilante justice by the theory that "If Kurt can't race, that damn Kvapil ain't going to race either!"
