Imagine making drivers go through three overtime attempts to ensure a green flag finish only for the race to end appropriately under caution anyway...

On top of that, we may never know the reason for that final caution until at least 5 days later because FS1 made no mention of it...

someone counted the caution time

Quote:
They were running about 275 seconds a lap under caution. Cautions came out on lap 10-12, 13-15, 24-28, 32-36, 37-39, 39-41, 41-44, 45-47, 47-49. That's 9 cautions for 23 caution laps in a 44 (+7 overtime) lap race. 45% of the total distance was run under caution. Roughly 6325 seconds or just over 105 minutes spent running under caution. Obviously that's give or take a few minutes here or there but still a staggering number. The total race time was 165 minutes meaning that 63.6% of the total race time was spent running under caution.

NASCAR's complete lack of competence on managing a road course race is maddening. Especially with their infuriating insistence upon not just using cautions to demarcate stages, but to make those stage cautions unnecessarily long so we can...<checks notes>...watch pit stops (whoopty-fuckin'-doo).

NASCAR needs to die so goddamn badly.

God forbid a road course race gets to play out.

Turning a road course race into a Rhodes course race.....

But yeah, that race owed us a side by side drag race to the line after waiting that long

To have them go "ahh, fuck it" and throw the yellow again I guess summed up the race but was still a massive let down

But what do I know, of course I fell asleep before the end

It's not just how trigger-happy they are when it comes to safety car deployments.

The time they take under said safety car conditions needs to be addressed as well.

Throw a FCY for a car stuck in mud in the bus stop chicane? Sure. But we don't need to spend 30 minutes under yellow just to extract one truck off of the track.

Sadly, IMSA suffers from this same problem as well, minus the trigger-happy cautions.

According to the race results the last caution was for the #44 truck stopping on the front stretch.

We're long past the coverage giving a shit what happens on the last lap if it's not to the leader

The formula for the last lap now seems to be: "White flag brought to you by credit one bank"-----> Follow leader whether they're battling or alone-----> immediate pit interview with crew chief/family member when they cross the line----->donuts------>Driver gets out and praises sponsors (probably with an ad break somewhere in there too)

That 44 car could've burst into flames or flipped off the new Kerbs, but we'll never see it.
